Can't run apptests successfully

Post by Housepiglet » Sun May 25, 2008 11:31 am

Hi,

In installed AMVapp this morning. I'm using v.11 of Media Player. I can't get the test to run properly because (as far as I can tell) it's expecting to find either v.2 or v.6 of Media Player. Is there a way to solve this?

Thanks for any help.
Best wishes,
Housepiglet

The tests are looking for those versions. If you don't have them, they don't run. It doesn't mean the AMVAPP won't work or anything.

Thank you for explaining :)

I thought there might be a real problem because I'm working my way through a tutorial and can't get MP to play any .avs file. However, they're working in DivX so I'd more or less concluded that it was just inadequacy on MP's part.

2 significant points to make.

1) WMP is an inferior media player.
2) You shouldn't be using a media player to see if things are working correctly. If you're converting to lossless to edit with, you're not going to be able to play the files back correctly anyway.

Hi,

Agreed re: MP.

Re: using it to test, I'm following the tutorial recommended on this Forum. It shows newbies how to make some basic AVS files and instructs the student to test them in MP to see how AviSynth works. Since it doesn't work, I'm learning with DivX instead :)

Hi again,

I forgot to ask whether there's a media player that's generally recognised as a good one. If there is then I'd like to get hold of it. I'm still learning, and so I don't yet know how to differentiate between the many products on the market.

VLC is still hit or miss for some things (It's support of certain advanced subtitle streams sucks and seeking is a chore). Media Player Classic is an old standby that I've used for years without problems.

Also, You shouldn't edit with lossy encodes (like DivX) The reasons why have been posted upwards of 1000 times on the forums, so a search should give you your answer as to why.

Thanks re: video player.

\And once again, I'm not editing. I'm simply following a tutorial (published on this Forum) to learn how the programme works.
