Review does videos that aren't all that well known most of the time. I mean come on, at least I watch a video before trashing it so I'll have some clue what I'm talking about.

The problem with review isn't that popular videos get picked occasionally, it's that some members of the org seem to feel that under no circumstances should a popular video be discussed. Sorry, popular editors aren't deserving of any more or less respect from me than the no name people. I find it rather elitist that anyone would even suggest we pick on the nobodies because no one gives a fuck about them while popular people should be above reproach.

HA - I can't believe I'm doing this, or no wait, I can. Anyways, I'm posting this because my eyebrows went through the roof when I read:
quadir wrote:3. Rock on DR. It's too bad she didn't stand up to herself like silver did, but even I admit you're an intimidating bunch. Congrats on making a girl cry. Looking at something and going 'how did this win over X?' is a completely valid question/statement and of course it's a difference of opinion but so is most of what comes out of your mouth. The fact that X is your own video makes the comment seem more whiney then it is, but everyone makes these kinds of statements all the time. But maybe you're emo wah wah trythil wah wah I suck and don't. Stop being a bunch of hypocrits.
If making me cry is the worst offense then...well I don't know what, but yeesh!! I am NOT proud of what I said in #review, quadir. Or at least, I'm not proud of the way I said it - hence my dismay that some people misinterpreted it so badly and my carelessness in uttering such a statement around folks who aren't willing to give me the benefit of the doubt. Really. It was a stupid thing to say and I apologized for it.

I felt like such a wimp reading "Congrats on making a girl cry" though...probably because it makes me look like a wimp and there are few things I hate more than being wimpy. I usually do stand up for myself - it's one of my lovely little habits that drives lots of people, rightly or wrongly, nuts - but right now this is the best I can do. Sorry to disappoint, quadir.

What? Heh? YAH!! But wait, there's MORE!

I have a medical condition that, when it gets beyond the scope of my medication to handle, proceeds to cause all kinds of mental, physical and/or emotional problems. These problems don't crash land, they sneak in and it usually takes some kind of MAJOR incident to confirm that yes, something is wrong with me again. This crying business is one facet of a major incident and unfortunately the most public one.

Anyways, I've been "off" for awhile now. It may have contributed to the coherency and tone of my contributions to #review of late, hard to tell, really. Bottom line is that I wasn't reacting to things the way I normally would have, I wasn't saying things the way I'd normally say them, I wasn't acting like myself. I believe I already explained why my comment came out the way it did and what I really meant to say - that all still stands, even though that came out badly, too, of course. I apologize for making such a scene.

I'm going to refrain from saying anything more about #review at this point because a lot of it has already been said (one way or another), I am not fond of exhaustive quote replies, I don't think dragging any of this out further is going to have positive results and it's going to be another week or two before I get my new meds. Yes, we get it: whatever it was originally intended to be, #review seems to have gotten off track and could use some revamping...let's see what we can all learn from this and look forward to better times.

Thanks. Please, continue to talk amongst yourselves.

I think the feeling that they were popular videos came from the fact that they had rather hot announcement threads compared to a lot of other announcement threads. (At least two out of three of them had somewhat busy announcement threads; I can't speak for Fate/Stay Night one - I don't remember the thread. o_O;)

Technically that doesn't make them popular, per se. It just means they are at the forefront of the minds of a number of the people that will actually read the log. (People that at least peruse the forums from time to time.)

None of that is really meant so support either side of the popularity argument, I just felt it should be noted.
... yea ...

Why not just judge all videos for what they are, content/quality wise and ignore who edited it. This should also include (in my opinion) ignoring the target audience in reviewing videos, and measure them for what they are.

The audience comments came about because we try to figure out where the editor is coming from. After all, if someone tried to make a drama and ended up causing laughter it should be judged differently that someone who actually set out to make a comedy. There are differences in group viewing and home viewing and a good editor will take advantage of those differences depending on who their intended audience is. So the target audience is a valid subject to discuss

Think of it this way, if someone made a video intending that only people who saw the anime would get it don't you think that's a valid point to discuss? Same thing if someone made a video for a con audience instead of home viewers.

I don't understand why we are so divided on this whole issue. This has nothing to do with whether it was one of Vlad's videos, or some relatively unknown editor. I think the result would be the same. We are having an open discussion about AMVs. The Driftroot incident has come and gone. I think we can safely brush that aside as a mistake on everyone's part. Vlad never had an issue with what was being said about his vid, he had an issue with what was being said about THE VIEWERS. It's just common courtesy to "treat people the way you want to be treated". I mean come on...to all those out there that had no problem with the "audience being stupid" remark, ask yourself: would you like to be called dumb and tasteless because you liked "X" AMV? No, everyones taste is different. Just accept that. All that is being asked is to have some common courtesy when referring to others. We are here to review AMVs, not to review PEOPLE.

According to comments earlier in this thread I'm allowed "tearing the random pieces of shit of complete nobodies a new one". It's talking about the cool kids of the org that's not allowed. So I'm looking at your post and all I can think is 'Who the hell is this?' Sounds like a random piece of shit complete nobody to me. As has been repeatedly suggested in this forum, you're fair game. So let me be the first to say go and boil your bottom, sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you. Thpppppt! Thppt! Thppt! I don't wanna talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! Now, go away, or I shall taunt you a second time-a!

Let me know when you become part of some clique so I know to some making fun of you.
