For me it's the opposite. I don't see how people have the patience to go through and make clips.

uh yea, you dgindex the vob then set up the avs filter to point to the d2v file open the avs in virtualdub mod and clip from there... to make it even easier, you choose to run them in job control instead of saving them right away, and then turn on job control and render your clips in a batch mode while you sleep

Or if you're really cool, you serve the avs into your editing program and trim the clips you want as you need them. 8-)

that would require my program to be able to accept avs, and well bait and switch doesnt sound like fun for me.

Besides making the final encode for distribution, all the guides basically say the same thing. They tell you how to get your footage into a format that was made for editing; ergo Vic's guide is still relevant, and will always be valid.
