Wow you guys do not know what you are talking about.

Just because the org has those listed as categories doesn't mean they are the exclusive categories, especially since "other" is pretty much all inclusive.

What of the mixing and mashing of genres? do they themselves become a genre?
How about "Blipvert" or "amvhell" style videos can they be classified as genres?

Perhaps the questions is not so simple after all.

I advise you to think about a question yourselves before attacking someone else as "braindead"

Also the OP specifically asked for the tropes associated with said genres.

What exactly makes an AMV a horror AMV? is it just because it has vampires and monsters? if something is frightening does it automatically make it a horror?

What about the fear one might get from watching a woman get raped in a serious or drama amv? is it drama or horror?

so how about next time you think and answer instead of being massive condescending douchebags.

x2

The way I see it, the listed 'genres' are just there to help organize amvs based on similar traits, but not define them as such.

Sounds like comedy to me.

oh, and this might help:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=57382
especially the first post of each category;
although each blurb could probably be elaborated on some more... :amv:

More like fun. Certainly full of action though. Might also contain some serious romance and can possibly be instrumental.

Horror is always one of those hard to define category's.. I'm a huge "horror" fan but 9 out of 10 video's tagged as horror are lame action video's with like FC describes some Vamp's or monsters. Thus I'm all for a listing of what defines a certain category. So people don't miss categorize their video's.

Sry I think this story is stupid. In my opinion amvs are something that shouldn´t be limited with stare categories. Yeah I know that you don´t want to do this, but in some way it feels like this for me.

Like Fall_Child wrote about the horror genre.

I think Fall_Child42 put it pretty well.

But I think it would help to tell us a little more about your essay. In most essays, it is frowned upon to give excessive background information beyond a short summary. So I think spending a sentence on each major genre (or something along those lines) is just going to prove to be a waste of energy, especially if your descriptions end up being similar to common feature film genres (e.g. action AMV have lots of fast cutting...)

If you're looking at genres unique to AMVs, like an AMV Hell genre, then describing it might be worthwhile to your essay.

I've yet to see a real "horror" amv, mostly because amvs do not scare me.
