Heck, I want to join in on sending my AMVs into the contest but so far, I can't get Cleaner 5, or iMovie to convert to the standard Mpeg-2 format for the con! Can regular Mpegs be fine?

If you cannot connect, your problem is that you're connecting in PASSIVE mode, you need to set the program to ACTIVE
Gimme a minute, I'll make a cool one....

A general notice is below. Let me preface this by saying so far I have been very satisfied with what submissions I had the time to spot check. I am VERY happy that several folks who have items that don't match up to the submission specs have contacted us instead of just dumping an entry onto us as sometimes happened in the past.

I was very concrete in the rules of the technical submission requirements for a reason. In the past I have been pretty decent about checking for mastering errors that entrants have made. I do not have that luxury this year. So be warned. The onus is on the submitter to understand the submission requirements and to check their entry carefully before submitting.

The rules and requirements are written so you do not need to know how the contest playback environment works or what we do with entries. Ultimately the restricted submission format serves two main purposes for quality control.

1) It makes it easy for a submitter to know what I need and we are able in many playback venues to use the exact file you sent us without re-compressing it.

2) It makes it easy for me to create contest versions in different formats for redundancy and process them in a short time window. This allows you to submit very close to the con. Given ACEN's placement between the winter con season and summer season allows us to still get a lot of great new content to showcase from all of you creators.

I do not run the tech on submissions like a lot of the other AMV contests. I am more of an organizer than a technician you might say. I will not analyze your video and correct luma levels. I want minimal conversions which is why the rules will say use 48 kHz so that way I can quickly bulk process extracted audio streams for a DVD.

Since some might say I am holding our entrants to a higher submission standard I want to close by saying I really do appreciate your work to feed us new content and appreciate all of your efforts.

1 week is left and I'm looking forward to seeing what you've all got up your sleeve. Especially the theme entries.

I myself was actually wondering why the request for 48 KHz. Looking forward to a good contest this year. Keep up the good work guys.

Cleared FTP again. Batch of e-mails for confirmations and notification of bad uploads have been sent out.

There is 3 GB limit on the FTP directory. I will be clearing it as often as I can.

Only use ASCII characters in the filenames. Some people are trying to put double byte characters into the file such as – instead of -. There is a difference. So manually name your filenames (don't cut and paste the name from some application). I have no idea if this is occurring for some people because they might run their OS in foreign language mode or if this is some rich text default of apps running in Vista or whatnot.

Please TEST your own files you export in media playback software before submitting them. Do NOT assume the encode went through OK.

Those using TMPGEnc, you should be checking "output bitstream for edit (closed gop)" and "detect scene change" on the GOP structure settings tab. Also make sure you are encoding MP@ML in the video settings tab. Those using the DVD preset profile that comes with the app haven't been having any issues I'm aware of but some folks using highly customized templates should probably double check things. I've had a few glitched files which this has fixed. Typically playback problems I have encountered over the years have resulted from some funky GOP settings or just something weird the encoder did.

Thanks!
