.avs file doesnt play?new to using avisynth..

Post by AimoAio » Tue Apr 08, 2008 8:50 am

Ok so basically I had a video.Made with Sony Vegas. All finished and ready to upload onto youtube on my birthday.Unfortunetly it doesnt want to upload.6 hours and still it says "Uploading.."

So I thought I'd try compressing it.Trouble is I dont know how,so I started reading some guides,ErMaC's and AbsoluteDestinys techincal guide.Got to the part about the AMVapp and AviSynth.Downloaded the app and started the installation.

So I follow the installation guide, making sure all boxes needed were selected and uneeded were unselected and then started following the guide on using AviSynth.I understand how you enter commands and everything but

Then I got to the part using real footage.I downloaded the file it said to use.

Now I named the .avs file as believe.avs and this is what it says inside it

DirectShowSource("C:\Downloads\Kevin Caldwell - Battle Athletes - Believe.mpg")
BicubicResize(320,240)

But when I try to open it,this comes up with the media player screen but nothing playing. After a while it auto closes itself :S

I had a slight problem with finding the location aswell.I set the folder view options to display full path in address bar but it only goes up to C:\Downloads and when I select the file,it doesnt show the actual location,so I right click-->properties then highlight the name.mpg and put that next to the C:\Downloads\

Is the address wrong?maybe that's why it wont play?but if its the wrong address, then how'd I get the right address?

everything looks right to me

just to be sure...you did install avisynth right?
if you got the amvapp (and installed it,) it should have installed avisynth for you. It also comes with virtualdubmod (or maybe just vdub...not sure anymore)
try to see if your .avs can open in vdubmod

I'm sure I did but I'll re-install it again.I had to uninstall it because it won't let me open up Sony vegas.
Something about a rundll32.exe error...
However vegas works fine once I uninstalled AMVapp..

I'll try your method anyway

strange, directshowsource is an internal filter...so it should be there

try uninstalling just aivsynth, and then get version 2.5.6 from here (get the .exe, it's under 2.5.6a)

2.5.7 should work as well, but some members have had random green bar problems with 2.5.7 (to which the workaround was to get 2.5.6)

and now another problem. This time I have an amv made with vegas, rendered and saved as a .avi file. Here's what I typed into the script.

AVISource("C:\Documents and Settings\Default\My Documents\My Videos\Smile-KH2.2.avi")

but when I try to load in VirtualDubMod this happens

Image

So I try opening in Windows Media Player but then the same message comes up.

ok nevermind,I changed it to directshowsource and somehow it works :| so much for the avisource thing lol.But I still can't use the Trim range funtion thing in virtualdubmod and I really do want to get on with the guide :\ help here please?

The problem

When I select start and end points,it's supposed to be highlighted blue but nothing happens in mine. And the "Insert Trim with range" option isnt available under the Edit toolbar. So I try pressing CTRL-T but nothing happens either. Here's a screenshot..

As awkward as it may seem, the version of VirtualDubMod that you have doesn't highlight the selected area. All you get are the little tick marks. (I have the same version.)
... yea ...
