  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Don't take it personally, I'm on dial up for another little bit, so i can't download files over 50 mbs. H264 would totally compress that sucker into 50mbs! :D

Pretty solid, overall. As for the length, I really thought it was only 30 seconds too long on first watch.

As for the editing, I like how you mixed it up a little bit. The beginning and middle were a little different, and the use of masking was really nice, but during the guitar solo, it kinda changed the pace of the solo. Which was okay, because it maintained the overall pace of the video. But the video overall didn't have a very rhythmic feel (and I'm hardly one to criticize), but I think that was my biggest qualm. It was kind of hard to predict where the cuts would be, when the effects would be used. And with a song like this, it's kinda hard. But the only part that I really didn't like was the keyboard solo... the editing almost seemed separate from it. I guess you were following the percussion more than anything. At that point I would've tried adding some minimal pulse effects, nothing full screen. Something to draw the viewer back in; would've been perfect timing.

I will also say that some of the percussion sync was pretty awesome. Namely the parts with masking.

But, as I said, overall solid. I like your style, I hope you keep it. Next time maybe just something a little more cohesive.

Allow me to question this sentence. If one already vaguely knew where the cuts and effects were, then wouldn't watching videos like this be quite... uncreative and predictable? I'm not sure if I understood your post correctly, but I have a hard time imagining why you'd expect a video to be cut in a certain way. Ultimately you would be putting AMVs to a certain mold. Are you perhaps referring to the editing process and not the viewing?

Well, even when I'm listening to new music, I can generally predict where it's headed, even if it doesn't follow the verse/chorus/verse structure. Just because there's a rhythm/meter. It doesn't mean I can already play out the whole song in my head, which would make it completely uninteresting.

I'm not saying it has to be cut a certain way, I'm not even saying it has to be predictable, just that I prefer action videos to have a better sense of flow. Generally you establish flow by using patterns (the entire video doesn't have to adhere to a pattern) buttressed by effects or cuts. And I'm sure that Inaaca understands it perfectly, but as a viewer it was hard to piece it all together.

During the solo, my editing was primarily following the general rhythm of the music, the cuts going with the flow of the music speed and pitch changes. Back in the early planning stages, I had planned to do effects to the instruments at this part, but later scrapped it for favor of having a nice break between effect-heavy sections, and a greater focus on the actual goings-on in the footage.

As far as your comments about flow so far, I'm starting to think that this is primarily an editor style difference that may not change much with me, because I'm having trouble grasping exactly what it is you're seeing. I think that what you prefer is more repetition (patterns) with how edits are performed, which I do sometimes, but I don't necessarily follow that pattern and often prefer to mix it up a bit with different kinds of edits.

Thanks for the criticism. Always appreciated as seeing various viewpoints is a great learning tool.
