Sakuracon 2008 AMV Theatre pictures

Post by landojo » Mon Mar 31, 2008 7:14 pm

Vlad and I run the AMV Theatre at Sakuracon. I'm sure vlad will post more later, but here is the short rundown of our room itself.

Our first picture is during our setup process. I brought the bean bag so I could watch AMVs in comfort... on a giant screen... 10 feet infront of the big sub...

Here is our setup, the nearest computer is our preview machine where we can watch AMVs and check for content violations. This is so we can allow for requests of AMVs which we don't remember to be sure they are family friendly during the day, and sanity friendly late at night. The next computer is our "Soft-Codec" machine which can play almost all of the oddball video/codec combinations out there. Then we have Vlads twin playback shuttles. Both are equiped with netstream 2000 cards which play back hardware decoded mpeg2 files to maintain maximum quality and reliability. Vlad can go into more detail if he wants.

All together we had ~13 TB of drive space there, primarily for AMVs. Vlad had everything in triplicate incase of failures, disasters, and any other scenerio where one or even two copies of the content may not be avaliable.

Here is a pic of the room while we have guests in it. We had lots of problems trying to keep people away from our door. We often had to ask people to go find an open seat.

Ironicaly, last years room only held 105 people... this years room held 310 people and it still was too small!!

The room was cool though, it has a very high ceiling so the screen was huge and about 6 feet off the ground so everyone could see. We had 4 x 450 watt speakers (one in every corner) and a hug sub woofer so the quality of soudn was fantatic!

All in all, we had the best attendance for any of the viewing rooms and people loved all the videos we showed!!!

I'm pretty sure with the three room I'm runnign this year, and the 6 or so cons I do AMV blocks at, there will be over 1000 AMV shown!

Hehe, not bad otherwise.
