Video Quality / Technical Aspects In AMV's : Discussion Line

larger resolutions bug me sometimes, scooting around my vlc player to make the buttons visable on my screen kinda bugs...

however larger resolution =/= better quality, theres a lot of upscales out there.

visual quality = don't care, annoying and noticeable encoding errors = a bit annoyed if its an AMV I want to keep

I think at this point DVD quality is almost a standard people hold most (modern) videos to. We have better tools now then we did X amount of years ago for getting to that level of quality, and its freeware at that...so there isn't really a reason NOT to have at least decent video quality...what it really comes down to is effort. If I see that an editor has taken the time to learn how to get good quality, which isn't difficult, I'm likely to respect them more as an editor, but it doesn't necessarily mean I'll respect the video, if that makes any sense ^^;

I'm much more likely to give a video with decent quality a more detailed list of suggestions because I know the editor will take the time to consider those. If someone has shit quality, I know they won't even really take the time to read through a guide, so why are they going to read my tips, much less follow them. Thats the difference for me anyway.

Also, videos with huge resolutions bother me as well, as mentioned above. Skittles comes to mind...it looked good, but I don't think I want a video taking up my whole screen upon starting it up. DVD resolution vids are much easier to watch in my opinion *shrugs*

2) Watch HD videos.
3) ???
4) Profit!

This is why I keep going bigger and bigger. I eagerly await watching true 1080p AMVs on my Wall O' Pixels.

well in my opinion video quality isnt everything. i think the argument that it is DESIREABLE is definetly there, but the Blueray stuff is new, what about some of the awesome older vids, that dont have great quality.

2 really awesome amv's that dont have the great quality. i think when a new vid is released most people really look at stuff like quality these days, but when comparing it to older videos they dont seem to mind it as much because it was considered good for its time.

i guess what im trying to say is that, the new videos are expected to have the closer to perfect quality, whereas if you look back, some of your favourite amv's mite not be perfect because they came out a while ago

You realize that WAS good quality when those videos came out, right?

That's kind of my point. The oder the video is, the more slack I cut it. I'm sure if E-Ko were still around, Tainted Donuts could be remastered in lots of splendor. I'm sure that if Koop wanted to, but he doesn't, he could remaster Euphoria (moar liek youboremeah. Perception ftw).

You have to consider distribution. it was not feasible at the time for there to be 720p AMVs. You could possibly make them, you might even be able to play them, but you sure as hell couldn't get them to anyone else!

Well, if an amv has a shitty quality, to the point that it's hardly visible, that matters. But as long as it's well visibile, no complaints. Still, a better quality video might be more enjoyable even depending on the type of video. Think about a video like this:

The point here is mainly enjoying the visuals. It's all about the flow. Visual quality does indeed matter more than in a video like this:

Here the point is to have fun... quality does suck a lot but I still think it's funny, so I don't care that much.
