I need a free video editing software that is "good"

Post by Wolfehz » Sat Feb 23, 2008 11:01 pm

What I mean by "Good" is it can edit .avi all those other video players, but .avi is mostly what I am aiming for. Plus I need it to add .mp3 files to it.

I've had too many issues with windows movie maker, it errors, I reinstalled it, and now it won't import mp3 files.... I don't want to fix it I'm just fed up with it =\

Sooo, okay completely free, no free trials and whatnot.

Effects are not necessary but would be nice. Not too confusing or large, large doesn't matter but I think confusing does lol.

Help appreciated!~

software list stikcy
not all are free, but there are a few free ones listed.
Magix and vegas are also popular ones for editors with a budget

I'm guessing that your problem with .avi files is that you downloaded fansubs encoded with xvid (you shouldn't be editing with fansubs.) No matter which program you use, you will have trouble editing divx/xvid encoded footage.

editing with mp3 audio isn't great either, uncompressed .wav is much better for editing
BeSweet is program that can change mp3 to .wav
you could also rip the cds as .wav instead of .mp3

if you haven't already, I'd suggest that you Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides

Sorry for double posting~

Omg! The whole windows movie maker won't take .mp3 so turn it into .wav made it work!! <333 I also converted the avi files to another file to make it work better. And lol its not subbed =P I tend to not like subs in my AMVs unless its something important I guess you could say~

usually when people say that their avi files don't work it's because they're using fansubs, you might be surprised how often it comes up.

if you have the space, then you may want to re-encode your files with huffyuv (a lossless codec, very good for editing)
instead of re-encoding entire episodes (which would take up a lot of space) you could use virtualdub/mod to make your clips and encode those losslessly instead
JaddziaDax wrote:open the video file in virtualdub mod go to video->compression->Huffyuv or Lagarith

then go to file->save

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room

before I forget, the quote mentions lagarith as well (another lossless codec)
WMM doesn't play nice with lagarith though, so you should stick to huffyuv unless you get another program

or if you want smaller files, I say go with Intel Indeo 4.5 <.> (if you're sticking with WMM)

It deals with the files nicely, file sizes are smaller, and while there is a bit of a loss in quality, in the end...it's WMM...you're not gonna be able to tell the difference >.>

Try trying out http://videospin.com. it doesn't have all the fancy little details other things have but it'll get the job done.
