I had a couple of questions about my AMV submission. I sent them to the address above (amv@anime-expo.org) but I got this in an e-mail:
Your mail to 'AMV' with the subject

AMV Entry Questions

Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.

The reason it is being held:

Post by non-member to a members-only list
I'm signed up for the forums and it's been nearly a week since I got that e-mail. Is it normal to receive something like that (I'm not 100% sure what it means)?

Thanks. :D

I haven't received the notification that it was being held...I will go an check it. When did you send your email? I have only gotten a couple of notifications. I will check the list this evening and see whats up.

The AMV@anime-expo.org email list is moderated so as to prevent it from becoming a spam haven. Myself, Anneke and SPJA's mail admin have mod rights on that list.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I sent the e-mail about a week ago. I'll be gone for a couple of days, but if it didn't go through, I can try sending it again when I am back if you need me to. :)

I got your reply. Thank you! The only thing now is I am having some difficulties with the FTP server. I sent you an e-mail about it.

I responded to it. Apparently the FTP server is having issues atm. I will be contacting the appropriate IT staff about it this evening. I should have an answer soon.

Haven't gotten a response yet on the FTP, going to send in disks as well. Just want to cover every base.

FTP updates.

Post by DigitalPanther » Thu Mar 27, 2008 10:00 pm

Apparently, from what the IT folks have told me, the FTP server seems to be having issues with accepting things in passive mode. If you upload your entry and forms to the FTP address for entry into the contest you need to make sure your FTP proggy is in active mode.

I don't do alot of FTP'ing so I don't personally know the diff between active and passive modes.

Also. Once you upload your file you will not be able to verify it directly I am told it is to prevent people from logging in to see all the other entrants.

I just sent this to the amv list and figured I should post it here as well:

Hello All,

No. I am not going to post the specifics of the server in this email for fear of getting slammed and killed by IT. You will still need to email us at the address listed in the rules for that info, BUT, For those of you who do elect to upload your entry via FTP and contact us for the information I would like to suggest a few simple guidelines/ideas.

1. Please make sure your FTP program is set to Active mode not Passive. We have had a couple of entries not come up and according to our IT guys that is the reason it kept erroring out .
2. Please put your name in the title of the file. IE: <yourname>_my_badass_video_entry.avi , this will make it much easier for us to keep track of whose video belongs to whom.
3. Much as number 2 Please put your name in the file name of your forms submission. Just uploading it as forms.pdf or such won’t work because if multiple people do the same thing this can also get confusing pretty quickly. Suggested format would be <yourname>_entryforms.pdf (or whatever format rar, zip, etc)

Note that once you upload it, you will get a message that it was successfully uploaded but you will not be able to go in and look at it. This is to prevent peoples videos from being distributed without their knowledge and since we require the stripping of header and tail info we don’t want to risk someone trying to steal your video.

Thank you to all those who have entered so far. We have a month to go before deadlines. Things aren’t coming in as fast as I would have hoped but they are picking up. Thank you all

I have a couple of more questions. Sorry, I just don't want to bombard you with e-mails or get anything wrong. :P

1)Is it alright if I already uploaded my video with my username (MeliChan923) instead of my actual name as long as all the other files I send are the same way? If not, I'll re-send it corrected.

2) In the rules it says:
14b. All entrants submitting via FTP upload must also submit the Anime Expo® 2008 Anime
Music Video Contest Entry Form via mail.
Does that mean we should send our entry form through both FTP and the mail?

3) Will Microsoft Word documents be accepted for the forms? (I honestly have no idea how to edit or create .pdf files, Lol.)

No worries on the questions. I will do my best to answer.

"1)Is it alright if I already uploaded my video with my username (MeliChan923) instead of my actual name as long as all the other files I send are the same way? If not, I'll re-send it corrected."

Yes that is fine. I am having issue pulling it down atm working with IT to fix that. Will let you know the results.

"2) In the rules it says:

Music Video Contest Entry Form via mail.

Emailing it is fine. Others uploaded it as a rar file with the amv. So the suggestion was for those that elect to do that.

"3) Will Microsoft Word documents be accepted for the forms? (I honestly have no idea how to edit or create .pdf files, Lol.)"
Yeah thats fine though there is a save to PDF option in the current version of word as I recall. there are also many free programs on the net to create PDFs. The reason for mentioning PDF was that that way it harder to alter.
