It's traditional! You're supposed to eat fish and chips with a wooden chip fork out of newspaper whilst standing under an umbrella at a rainy row of shops waiting for the bus. Quintessential (read: imagined) England of yesteryear, right there.

For some reason, I just can't be feel put down by someone I imagine drinking malt liquor out of a paper bag whilst pulling feeling his head for lice.

I didn't mean it as a insult, I just thought it was weird that a restaurant would sell something wrapped in a old news paper, lol. I love fish and chips, but when they serve it they either serve it in a Styrofoam package or something here, or god forbid, on a plate or in a basket, lol.

And i don't have lice ....it's dandruff >.>;

I forgot the pizza at Columbo's (Elkhart, IN). In general... the pizza places from northern Indiana to Chicago are stellar... but his is my favorite.

The roast beef at Das Dutchman Essenhaus (Middlebury, IN). Amish style cooking FTW!

You can't even imagine. For some reason, this tourist trap has got itself an A++ pastry chef who makes all kinds of unbelievable things. What's funny is that I'm not a huge fan of apple pie, caramel, etc., but this particular dessert just completely knocked me out the second I SAW it. It tastes even better than it looks, too, which is always a plus.

Sweetcakes - A little hole-in-the-wall bakery shop run by a somewhat eccentric woman who nevertheless is an amazing baker. Five-inch high brownies that don't even LOOK like brownies because they are so...indescribable.

Catered to Your Whims - Peanut/Raisin/Broccoli/Onion salad. I don't like broccoli, nor am I partial to peanuts, raisins or onions and CERTAINLY not in the same dish. Or so one would think...mix it up with a mysterious sauce and it's suddenly one of the greatest things I've ever eaten.

In case anyone hasn't figured this out yet, Rhode Island has an incredible number of restaurants and is a fabulous place to find outstanding food of all kinds any time of year. lol Next to my family, the food is the #1 thing I miss about living there (which isn't saying much, because otherwise I hate Rhode Island).

I'm going to start getting sniffly in a second because I miss these yummy things so much. @_@

It's the only place I know where you could find Thai, Szechuan, Indian, Cantonese, Italian, American, Mexican, French, Cambodian and probably more all within 20 minutes of each other.

Big Alice's for kickass ice cream

Union Station Brewery for it's Velvet Stout ale!

Sicilia's for stuffed pizza that's out of this world.. and almost too big to fit in your mouth

And how I miss the calamari and stuffed quahogs.. yum!

So the big nostalgic thing is standing in the street going 'It's raining like hell. This fucking sucks' while eating marginal food and slowly poisoning yourself? Suddenly I understand England a lot more than I used to.
