Well you know what my blockbuster is like, and btw Nappy, if you bothered to read my posts, (which you obdviously don't bother to.) You would realize that even IF I had a credit card, I couldn't rent anything since I DON'T HAVE A CENT TO PAY THE BILL! If ignorance is bliss you must be high as a kite.

Compared to 10 years ago, you kids have it easy. Back then it was trying to find a shitty dubbed copy of something in your local Suncoast or Camelot, or relying on your local anime club to give you a badly subbed VHS of an anime that had been viewed 100 times and was likely to give you tracking problems out the ass. Now, Cartoon network gives you a Nicely done Cowboy Bebop, and you gotta run it through the mud. Please. Try to remember the days when you were the kid getting up at 5:30 to watch the Saturday anime feature on the Sci-Fi channel, and they would show a badly dubbed Akira or Green Legend Ran, and smile, because now, any good video games store has an anime-dvd section. Don't take for granted what was once hard to come by.

Hey, I remember watching the end of the sayan saga back to at least 5 years ago, and before THAT I watched progect a-ko on the sci-fi channel, and somewhere along the line I remember robo tech, and before all of THAT to the late 80's I was a dedicated fan to the 7 cities of gold. (me and anime got an eirly start together.) And all this before the age of ten, and it isn't exactly like I had the internet back then, or access to an anime club where I could get this stuff. (But if I did, well I can't even imagine.)

The only good anime I've seen at the Blockbuster near me is Angel Sanctuary. I believe they may 3 or so other titles, but they are all shitty.

Preach on, brother Wilson.

I remember when the only thing you could get from Blockbuster was Vengeance of the Space Pirate (a surprisingly good dub of My Youth in Arcadia, if somewhat edited down), or Clash of the Bionoids (a hideously dubbed and edited version of Macross: Do You Remember Love?). I thought it was the Second Coming when Speed Racer started getting a VHS commerical release.

...let me put it in simple terms for you.

Dubbing = Time + Money
Putting out box sets for x-amount of dollars = Money
Money = More series being dubbed.subbed and being released on DVD
Being subbed/dubbed and being released on DVD = People buy it
People buy it = Even more money

There. The answer is that they need money to keep dubbing/subbing Animes and releasing them on DVD/VHS.[/i]

hidously dubbed...? like the orginal version was any better... man oh man that movie sucked new kinds of asses.

I guess I count myself lucky, I live in a good town (Toronto) and it helps its anime community with excellent conventions, stores for legal and :twisted: illegal :twisted: copies of anime (nice to say that more people go the legal route or in the end, end up there) and lastly a theatre is used to show Anime every 2 weeks... where we can see and preview movies and shows as they are just about to released on DVD or VHS... bysteping those people's need to 'download' to preview or whatever...

Well... my attitude is, I download them to preview, and when I enjoy what I see I buy them. But not only for the ethical, it is just that you can't come up with something else when it comes down to comfort and quality than DVD.

And for the rentals, that is impossible here where I am (Austria). There are no stores that have anime in a perimeter of a few hundred kilometers. So I always have to buy over the net, and buy them from the US, cause our releases are much later, and lamer... I happened to pay 350€ for the 8 Eva DVDs. But hell, they are worth every little cent!

Oh and I forgot to mention, the only Anime our Cinema aired was Princess Mononoke, but it aired weekdays at 2 or 3pm. So just kids could watch it and all the adolescents and adults for whom the film was intended couldn't. Also they just showed it for one week or so.
The cheapest thing, when in the radio they announced Jin-Roh to be airing the week, our cinema didn't even know what the hell Jin-Roh could be. OMG.

The only thing which will air at our big screen will be a DBZ movie 12+13 double feature cutted by some ass-lame german Broadcast channel! Oh, how great -_-
