They're tech. one and the same.

Macross was one of the three shows cobbled together to make up the Robotech continuity.

That said, that was around ep...23 or 24, I believe (they didn't alter the animation for the show much at all, so you can prob. use either version for your purposes in this case.)

Also, there's a few kids playing at a video arcade briefly in episode 5 of Gundam 0080: War In the Pocket
Plus Megazone 23 part 3 has a story element pertaining to an arcade game machine (with the rather unfortunate name of 'Hard On' ...oh Engrish.)

FMP Fumoffu only has 12 episodes. You were referring to episode 1, I believe, but I suppose it could have been episode 2.
The scene where Sosuke runs out of ammo and shoots his own gun into the arcade game.
