AMV Theft? / Kei-Kon

Post by DoomDragon6 » Sun Feb 24, 2008 10:51 pm

Hi all. I'm sure this has been discussed before and it might not even be a big deal, but I think I may have been a victim of--- gasp-- AMV theft!

I post all my videos on you-tube as well as here, and someone left a comment that they saw the AMV at Kei-kon (apparently an anime con at the University of Victoria).

It's possible she's mistaken, but I find it hard to believe that someone could really mistake an AMV like that.

So, basically, that means someone stole my AMV and submitted it to an anime con.

Now, I'm torn a few ways between this. As a newb, I find that flattering as hell. I've only made 3 AMVs (and the one that was 'stolen' was my 2nd), and someone liked the AMV enough to steal and submit it to a con? That's kind of kickass.

On the other hand, that means someone stole my AMV and is taking credit for it.

It's a strange situation, and I'm more curious than anything about it.

What do other people here think? Anyone go to Kei-kon and can confirm this?

Also, the AMV in question is

It's also possible that they just happened to play it at the con, not necessarily in the contest.

I can't edit my posts? Bah. Well anyway I meant to say the AMV in question is Do the Diggy Dumm.

You're talking about this year's Kei Kon right?
Kei Kon 2008?
If so, I don't remember seeing it
But there was one person who had a problem on the day that all the other videos were being shown.
That person had their video showed today but I couldn't attend so I wouldn't know.

Wow, it was really there??

That's... man, I don't even know what to think about that.

Okay, cool. My AMV was shown at a con.

It'd be cool if someone had informed me of that. Was it part of a contest, or did they just show off random AMVs?

Thanks for the info (and glad you liked it?). ^_^;

Yeahh...
It was part of the contest
I don't know if it won or not though
It was part of the Dance category
Lots of people liked it
Plenty of cheers

Sorry that somebody stole it

You'd have to contact the people in charge of Kei Kon if you want to complain about it

Hahaha. That's crazy. I mean, I am -floored- that so many people got to see it and liked it.

But, I mean, you know... Someone else is taking credit for my work. Which isn't cool.

I've sent an e-mail to the person in charge. =p

No, you may have just had your video misattributed. "Theft" means something quite different; you may save that word for (say) when someone breaks into your house and steals your hard drives.

Or, well, they just happened to play it.

Also, do you know they didn't give you credit?

If they did, what's the big deal?
If they didn't, would it be sufficient to send a polite letter to them, asking them to give credit when possible?
If you don't know, why are you accusing them of wrongdoing?
