Hey, if you're going to get on the Microsoft treadmill, you either keep up or get off.

I believe it would be tiresome to add info for every vid and such a program cannot be popular and really helpful. But the problem isn't unsolvable.

For the vids listed on the Org we already have everything, and a sorting program, if it was written, only needed an interface to access the data. Like search by hash.

There is another approach to the subject. If editors entered all the tags for their vids while muxing, we could use Winamp or iTunes for sorting. Some recommendations for tagging could be developed.
Now there's an idea. We already have the system in place, all you'd need to do is find the VidID number. Unfortunately, iTunes can't import avis and doesn't play regular mp4s, so it's out of the question, and Winamp doesnt have the sorting versatility or ability to play some codecs. Although I may be mistaken on the latter, I admittedly don't use it that much.

The problem, it seems to me, is that I want information available in the filename itself. I usually upload Studio - Name - Year - Anime - Title, which is not my own system, but one that seems most attuned to the needs of any given org downloader, at least while the video is being downloaded.

Yea, mine's similar. I have a folder called amvs and within it is a folder called already archived, for videos I like to rewatch. Vids I download go into the general folder until I burn them off. Notably I have a word document that lists what videos are on which dvd. XD

I found a great way to organize videos and find them again based on editor, song, anime, genre, video name, year, etc. If anyone wants to use this it's right <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/search/ ... p">here</a>.

I'd have the permission to start a school project on a java-based Amv Organizer.

I dunno the Database Structure so I'm not sure if its possible. But if its possible I'd like to create an application wich connects to the Database-Server and gets all the vid info.

The User could choose how it should be named ( like: artist - year - video title ).

Maybe i should make a request in the Site Feedback ? or the Site Help?
Is there someone I could discuss with over such things ?

plz lemme know if anyone has an idea

Are we talking the actual files here?

If you just want to organize the listings, then a spread sheet program is fine.

Myself, I categorize mine into type. Comedy, romance, dance type, non dance type, rowdy stuff (fan service intensive), MEPS.
I just burn them to dvd sorted out like that.

I also should add, once I have determined I like a song enough to ever want to hear it again, I rename them as anime it's based on, and song name.
Sorry guys, all those weird names you give them, that don't mention the song name or the anime just don't survive longer than the download process :)
If you are wise, you add a small slice called credits at the end, where you say you did it, the anime used and the song used. Otherwise, that detail is lost to time.

Soooo if I want to listen to funny animes based on Azumanga Daioh, it's a simple process for me.
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

Elitist much?

Time for me to be more elitist!

I take rather strong exception to this. The title of the video is important. In fact, I consider it so important, I usually create a title upon creation of the CONCEPT. I title before editing to help me strengthen my internal vision and remain faithful to it. It is an important part of the work, and I frankly find your belittlement of it to be absurd, and clearly a contradiction of your apparently claimed "elite" status.

Some of the most revered classic AMVs don't have end bumpers. So that's just a ridiculous, and clearly unsubstantiated claim. I personally am more worried about the lack of bumpers meaning I don't know who made a video back before the org, or what year it was made. I have several of those, and I wish I knew who the editor was and what year it was created in. But I know what the anime is, and I know what the song is.

Sometimes, you have to call a spade a spade, and my dear boy, you are a spade.

Hey, I use that a lot :O

But in all seriousness, I have folders like "Action", "Romance", "Melancholy" etc. and videos renamed with video titles only (yeah, you guys aren't getting your credit in my filenames  )
