In order for permission to be granted, the distributors would need to admit, "Oh, yeah, we've known about this all along, and we like it." Which they can't do, because what's being done is illegal.Chaos Angel wrote:However, JBone, we are not talking fair use, we are talking about obtaining permission for the videos which, while being unholy amounts of difficult, is possible. Only airing withOUT permission would violate copyrights.

But, yeah that would be an issue. Kind of like admitting that you knew your neighbor was running a prostitution ring the whole time.
Ok, maybe not that extreme, but the same basic principle applies. Admitting you knew what was going on isn't necessarily a good or smart idea.

RichLather, I realize my idea isn't an unsinkable battleship, but it's just a thought I had. We could modify my idea, or propose another idea about how we could work with this. I agree with you; this isn't going to happen overnight, or even in a year. But if we want this happen, why not trying to make the first steps now?
I'm sure some one here has to be a laywer, or is at least the son or daughter/friend/spouce/client of one. Obviously this won't turn out like David and Goliath, but we can gather more rocks and sharpen them
(Please disregard that ¬¬ )

I don't know about y'all, but I don't particularly savor the rain of holy hell that would rain down on all of our heads if ever word of this community ever got out to some retarded music maker or one of their lawyers who got it into his head that they could be the next Metallica/Napster situation. I personally love this site and applaud Phade for having the time and patience to keep it running. This site is basically a legal house of cards, and I don't want to see it knocked down.

The channel's going to die
Well, I guess an AMV show would work if you could get legal rights for the song and were using anime that ADV has rights to. Currently, I have yet to hear of any other North American Anime companies throwing in with ADV on this Anime Channel idea.
I know Manga Ent won't join up with them as there has been bad blood between the two companies since the whole "Ninja Resurection/Ninja Scroll Sequel" debacle that ADV did a few years back, and it seems to have resurged with the recent Newtype Evangelion review. Unless that is resolved any Manga Ent. titles won't be available for AMVs.
Pioneer and Bandai especially, seem to be working well with Cartoon Network so I doubt they would have much interest in the channel unless the money was right.
Media Blasters, TOKYOPOP, SynchPoint, and a few of the other smaller companies be willing to work with ADV, but at the same time, ADV's ego might make any sort of long term arrangements between these companies short lived.
Personally, I think the channel is going to bomb, not that I want it too, but I just have the feeling that the niche it is trying to fill is to small and the advertising dollars aren't going to show up to support the channel.
