Say he should rip them again, what should he choose for those?
Resolution: 640x480 (fairly standard for standard definition 4:3 source)
Codec: HUFFYUV, Lagarith, Uncompressed if he has the space, you shouldn't worry about bitrate with lossless. If he needs to compress, then DV, and the highest bitrate he can afford.
Oh container should be .avi

Bah double post.

reading over this again, "Run Script" is not meant for .avs scripts [actually I've never used this feature before]. You want to simply Open the .avs script, either through the File menu, or by drag-and-drop into virtualdubmod.

I'm still a bit fuzzy on the file format you are trying to open, but if you were trying to use the XviD.wmv's as your source[if that's what your saying, that may be your whole problem], wmv is a proprietary container of microsoft, and is not meant to be supported by vdub [not to mention with an XviD video stream; bad]. Although there's a chance you can get it to work through directshowsource(), you are much better off using the originals...

what format you ask?
Resolution: as high as it goes: probably 720x480 which will be scaled to 640x480 to fix the 4:3 aspect ratio [like Kio said :P ]
Codec: Anything lossless: HUFFYUV, Lagarith [beware of gigantic file sizes]
container: .avi, or if you can get it to .m2v after the rip process, you can avoid HUFFYUV
bitrate: as high as it goes: a combination of resolution and scene-complexity determine what it will be; but losslessly, don't worry.
SyberiaWinx wrote:I tried ripping the scenes from the disk, but only got a few. He could probably do it again technically, but that's asking a lot of him. He had to play through the entire game to get those scenes.
this sounds like gold to me; tell us as much about the ripped file as possible. Game, what gaming platform, file extension/container... others.

Space is a big issue. Neither one of us has the space to have huge scenes on our PC. Better quality would be nice, but it sounds like doing so will make the files way too big.

*note*
WMM doesn't play nice with Lagarith

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room
from there you would go to file, save, select codec (HuffYuv)
it's a bit of work...but it saves space, retains quality, and you'll end up making clips somewhere along the editing process anyway
I think this is the most quoted quote on the site...*finally bookmarks*

He seems unsure about the options listed for getting the scenes in better quality. He has no idea what DV is and says his recorder has very few options available.;-;

DV is Digital Video, it's a standard codec. Usually used by DV cameras. Can I have the make and model of his card?

His...card?

And right now, we're more worried about the bars. These AMVs are going to be for personal viewing and YouTube.^^; I don't plan on entering them in any contests.

Okay, let me go bck to a basic question then. What are you letterboxing FOR? If the resolution is currentl 320x240, that's 4:3. You would only need to letterbox if you were taking 16:9 source and placing them into 4:3 (foor hosatchel, as a case).

SyberiaWinx wrote:Okay, I've got some video game footage, with black boxes at the top and bottom of the scene. Since the majority of the scenes are like this, we don't won't to risk removing them. Instead, we need help with the select scenes that DON'T have these boxes, and thus look to be a different size. We've tried shrinking the height of these scenes, but it's impossible to get it right. We need a free program that can do one of the following two things:

-Move the entire scene up, not increasing the height, so that it will match up with the other scenes.

-Will let you increase the height of the top or bottom of the scene, but not both at the same time. Think something like Adobe Photoshop, where you can hold down part of the pic when you resize it, to make sure that part does not change.

Can anyone help me out?
