Help finding the right video editor to...

if you follow that step by step, you will be able to do it.

you must be stuck somewhere with the terms [to make a New Folder... right click your desktop...]

Of course they don't make any sense to me, but I gave it a shot anyway!!
I followed the proceedure step-by-step. Everything seemed to be in order until the time came to open the "script" file in VdubMod. I go to "Run Script" and when I click on the AVS file I get the splendid message "Parse error."
Needless to say I cannot get past this point...and I cannot find any helpful info about it's cause or solution.

okay, that sounds manageable. The computer you're using doesn't seem to have a media splitter installed. [which makes me wonder how you have been playing the files; I'm guessing VLC... but this is beside the point...] Install the CCCP and you should have one, then try again.

-make sure you have the full amvapp installed [not just the parts you thought you needed]
-if that doesn't work, try directshowsource() instead of avisource(), and post any error messages that may/not occur
-if that doesn't work, we'll have to find out what sort of source files you are trying to open:
..[maybe post how you got/made them]
..the extension will tell you its container [been assuming .avi],
..gspotwill tell you what type of video stream, and audio stream within it.

And he tried that other stuff you suggested and said the following:

OK, I did all of that. I am still getting the "parse error." I installed and ran the video through Gspot, but I don't see any information about audio and video streams or whatever. I am sure it is being displayed, but I don't know where.

Anyway, the videos were recorded with Intervideo Windvd Creator 3. They were originally recorded in the MPEG2 format as that was my only option. I then converted them to WMV files. That is what we have right now...

Yeah, I am. It would help if you gave me as much information about your source material, since you're worried about cutting stuff off:

He's trying to find out, but he has no idea currently. The other poster had him downloading a lot of stuff, so who knows. He keeps having that same parse error problem.

Understood. The more information we have, the more we can help. Phantasm knows his stuff too. We may have different approaches depending on your provided information, but we'll both try to steer you the right direction.

Resolution= 320x240
Codec= 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3
