It is very easy to use vdub/vdubmod to add letterboxing. You use the resize filter to add letter boxing. It's very, very useful. You can even choose a color other than black. AVS can do it to through commands, but vdub is more intuitive for new editors.

I used vdub to cut down the size of a small scene once, and it came out over 1GB and yet still in horrible quality.@_@

As a side note, does anyone know how to use those things to record stuff off your TV-video game footage, in this case,-and have it actually be good in quality?

He tried using avisynth, but the black boxes cut off part of the scene, which we don't want and keeps the size messed up. What's he doing wrong?
