Looks at own video profile...12 songs from 1990 itself and prior - heck, over the last 13 months, there's been 3 of them (broken up as 1 from the 1950s, 2 from the 60s, and then the rest are from the 80s or 1990, as the line there is a little blurred). And there's plenty more in the massive ideas list I've got.
Again, it really is more about what you feel you can pull off, which is the same for any type of music from any era (and any country, for that matter). In my case, any that fall before June 2003 I'd just as soon disown, even though I'm planning on redoing a couple of those.

Johnny Cash would become a druggie all over again just to drown out the pain of the commercialized Country B.S. that's popular nowCodeChrono wrote:
Bleck. Being from the south, most country songs I would love to edit to have been raped by the new country songs out right now, which is a disgrace to our past country stars. X_X (Stupid Hicktown song. Stupid Hillbillies Love it in the Hay song... Thank God for Faith Hill.)

Only three people have made videos using compositions by Hamauzu.
I mean, come on.
I mean, come on.

Re: Music choices
It probably has more to do with the age of the average AMVer...sunwukong86 wrote:If i were to use a "retro" song for an AMV is there something I should watch out for? Or is it just personal preference why the earlier stuff isnt used?
I'm more of an 80s fan but I did make a Candy Candy video set to
Boston's "More Than A Feeling", since both the anime and the song
were popular in the same year (1976).

yeah, have you ever tried?? maybe it's because I'm just incredibly stubborn but I've never had a project that conceptually just wouldn't work. I mean, I've given up on projects, but conceptually I've never seen one that *I* couldn't do /has done country, rap, pop AND 60s/ 70s music.JaddziaDax wrote:a lot of older songs tend to be more story-like which is why they are "harder" to make videos to.. same goes for country and rap.
But yeah, not many do POPULAR music, I wonder why?? Like Brittany Spears probly has less entrys than she has albums! Outkast, I could go on and on. Anything other than teen angst just doesn't get much play. And it's not like they don't fit... or maybe it's because I'd been watching amvs for so long that I really couldn't come up with a bad idea if I thought about it. Not to brag, but really, ppl get into zones like that, we really shouldn't put SO much emphasis on a brilliant idea. Really, they're easy to come by.
Anyway ppl miss the most obvious combinations just cuz they assume it's 'unoriginal' and has already been done to death, I think.

ok maybe brittany was a bad example... maybe not though, but. You get the idea.
And yeah, it's an age thing. Most of the noob videos are done to OVER popular teenage rock like LP or Sum41, so editors assume they'll get to the rest of the pop culture. But, no, they generally don't. There are tons of songs that you find on the radio every day that never appear on amvs and I'm sorry, but with the ppl complaining about there being no good ideas left. That's just pathetic.
/just wishes someone would take some of his ideas... I'm not trying to champion 90's or even recent pop/ rock music...
I mean take my Under The Bridge video, there's just not many of them, I mean for a song known by SO many, ONE AMV afaik before mine. ONE.
Metallica was pretty sparse beforehand as well...
... or was that the level of intelect in Metallica amvs was pretty sparse beforehand or something... well regardless! You get the point! There just aren't enough GOOD amvs done to the CLASSIC songs out there like AC/DC. Can't tell me you can't put that with FLCL or something.

Ben you missed my quotation marks
and zomg you are almost making sense anyways..
Actually there were several videos to Under the Bridge before yours.. :/ (the only good one was a yuri tribute to the "cousins" from Sailor Moon...) I know cause I went on a "rampage" downloading videos to the song one day...
and as for my statement it was intentionally vague, just because its "hard" that doesn't mean it can't be done
