I think downwithpants and MJ pretty much some up my thoughts. Being an observer for the most part in recent years, I've also noticed the same trends with people leaving, new people entering, people returning and so forth and in turn, the community changing little by little...to the point that, as Tab has observed, it's quite different.

Is that a bad thing? Well for myself? I don't think so, but then again I'm just an old fart who wants those damn kids off his metaphorical lawn.

Also like MJ, 2003 is a fairly fond year for me since I too was editing on a consistent basis and probably a lot more active on the forums. I also feel it was probably the strongest year in AMVs (during my tenure here) and I haven't seen any year come close yet ;) (that winks in hopes you folks can take that as a challenge and do so).

In any case, I guess I'm being nostalgic and sentimental (Me? NO WAI) so I'll just end here and say that TJ is fat and needs to stop eating so much!

Wow ...you guys take the internet really seriously 0-0; ...
I'm missing if your complaining about the people missing or what, but things change. Get over it. Find a new place to hang out, hell, make your own chat room and invite ur friends or something.
This is a hobby, stop bitching and have some fun! Or else!

At the end of the year, I think the ban should be lifted and the user be given a chance to rejoin the chat pending they don't do anything to get banned again (I know that can be subjective). Permanent bans just seem too extreme and cause so many of the older crowd to be felt left out, especially if they matured over the year and don't plan on repeating the offense that got them banned the last time.
I am not opposed to this. I think this is an adequate solution. Others may disagree.

The community is nothing like what we had in the early days, and I think people need to understand that. For one thing, boochsack definitely made the community take a sharper turn than would have originally been expected. I have also commented on the technological level vs. effort needed to produce anything.

I must echo Atom. This isn't 1999, it isn't 2001, it isn't 2003. It's 2008, and despite the fact I have fond memories of the AMV community from each of those years, they did not resemble each other, let alone resemble now.

Furthermore, not all of can even agree on what the problems are, let alone what the solutions should be. You and godix, and others, say the lack of originality is a problem. Whereas I say, the constant ADD driven desire to be original and different is a cancer, and that what we lack is heart. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Kogami Eated Your Soul or Skittles or WheteverTheFuckElseIsTheAMVEquivalentToCaffienatedBeverages, but I'd rather a Service with a Smile or a Waiting For You, personally.

I completely fail to see how hosatchel has impacted AMV'ing, except for when your video gets put up there. I don't see it. The shift in the community from the one I enjoyed in 2004, to the onslaught of newbs or people who were only now coming back in 2005 and on is what's been killing my interest in participating on the forums. It was not hosatchel, but the hosatchel mentality of tl;dr your two sentence post.

Yeah, and where did that mentality come from? I don't blame boochsack on its own. I do blame the "drive-through" mentality that boochsack best exemplifies, and the demographic it was started to serve. Unfortunately, boochsack provided that demographic the means to demonstrate the th;de (too hard; didn't edit) version of the AMV quickly and with a large distribution. It did not take long for anyone even remotely interested in AMVs from this demographic to find us. Hence the onslaught of newbs.

I'm sorry, as soon as I wrote that I knew it was harsh. I didn't mean it to you, I just thought it was funny.

which occured recently.

An op in the IRC let you back in in 2005, under this assumption:
I let him stay in the chan under the condition that if he ever breaks rules again, he would be banned forever with no chance of EVER comign back
And to make it better, from a post of your own from 2004 when you were an op in the IRC, all of your bans are completely justified:
