Where has the community gone?

YOUR 2003 animemusicvideos.org isn't necessarily the same MY 2003 animemusicvideos.org or many other people. Why not just come out and say specifically what it is you WANT in a community? Freedom to just post whatever it is you want for no reason? Or more vaguely, just a simply off-topic random environment? Or do you want an un-moderated no-holds-barred chat room?
Donator's Forum is off-topic and for the most part, pretty random at times. If you're looking for outright absurdity and craziness and no moderation off-topic forums, then you'll likely have to look elsewhere.
As for chat rooms, the AIM chat DOES still exist. Sorry if it's less populated, but as I said before, if it's specific people you miss, talk to them directly.
To answer your question directly, no, of course animemusicvideos.org of 2003 does not exist anymore. And guess what, animemusicvideos.org of 2006 does not exist anymore, because it's fucking 2008. As we've said already, time's change, people move on, rules are adapted, it just happens. If you long for the old times, make them happen on your own.

the old OT was very cliquey, more so than now. perhaps that was a good thing for the community members, but it created a very elitist atmosphere. i remember earthcurrent or someone coming out and complaining about the elitism too, people not helping and just flaming newbs.
but then phade closed OT. that pretty much killed off the OT community. some went to demonseal or hypeodermic, but those communities presumably faded.
the active community kinda cycled 2004-2005 with regulars leaving and new regulars showing up, but has kinda established itself with permanent members over the past two years.
so, no, the old forum community has dispersed, and a new forum community taken its place. a few regulars from old OT have stuck through it all, but they have adapted to the changes.
some interesting notes:
there has always been a couple of very active newbie helpers, and when one leaves another seems to take her place.
the administration has been less active and vocal then before, but the atmosphere in the general forums has become more strict. why? i'd argue that it's not the admin, but forum regulars lynching and ibtling any thread that had the potential of becoming off-topic. this became so common that it was regularly accepted that any potential OT thread should be insta-nuked and the poster banned. i grew kinda sick of this and threw out a rule to punish ibtlers.
flint and others introduced the donators OT forum idea to the org, i think with the hopes it would be a stepping stone to an open OT. i myself would love to have an open OT as well, who knows, maybe someday it will happen (however, yes, the admin are lazy).

By the way, I guess now would be a relevant time to ask if I could get RadicalEd0 merged into this account, since somebody with that capability must be reading this :|

Take a look at the two again today, and tell me if that's the issue. Oh, that's right. You have to deal with them in IRC.IcyCloud wrote:I remember the AIM. But, as much fun as was had in that chat room, it then became increasingly populated by ADD-ridden teenagers with a penchant for neon text. IRC didn't kill AIM, AIMtards killed AIM.

I've never thought of it that way, but the IRC and the AIM have swapped spiritual places. AIM used to be a dumping-ground for the entire community. IRC used to be a niche hangout for regulars. Now it's the opposite.requiett wrote:Take a look at the two again today, and tell me if that's the issue. Oh, that's right. You have to deal with them in IRC.
However, if #AMV is where the entire community has gone, then fucking put a stop to the childish bans so I can stop feeling like the place I knew is gone. Phade? Are you reading?

I remembered when I was kid my grandma always took me to the bank with her so she could get her pot money/buy me that latest shiney Optimus Prime Toy. The transactions of Cash from the bank would take a long time for my grandma's social Security check to go through. That or I was seriously impatient and early anticipated that red shining Truck that would transform into the coolest Robot version of christ ever so I could make him fight my Joker Action figure when it's obvious that Batman/Transformers don't fit so well together. I wanted to cry and throw my hissy fit. But, I also Enjoyed the candy the Bank would always give to me for being such a good behaved littled shit. I always wanted the Cherry Flavored Sucker they would always give me. Since I always kept screaming "The Red Kind" through the speaker.
It was only hour later when my grandma finally got her pot money and I was rewarded my usual Cherry Flavored Tootsie Pop I was rewarded for being such a behaved kid. At the end of the day I was truely greatful for the cherry tootsie pop, and My Optimus Prime Transformer. I now had a friend for Batman to fight against the Joker for my treasured Toys.
K, 15 years later I'm 20 and I go to the bank to cash in MY pot money and computer parts. The bitch at the bank who was suppose to cach my check was too busy bitching about his boy who wanted that new Transformer's Movie Edition Optimus Prime for Xmas but never got it to due she got Shoryuken'd by some other woman at the Wal-Mart Store. She Took HOURS I tells ya.
Hour later she hangs up the phone and I give her my check I recieved from my Grandma for Xmas. 3 min. later she gave me the check and I asked her..."Wheres my Cherry Tootsie Roll". She mentions how That the Banks (At least where I lived) Don't do that anymore. So i left out of that bank with Nothing but a hour's worth of Waisted time in my hands and this 200 dollar cash to blow on pot/video games/anime ect.
This is exactly what your sounding like to me TAB.
TJ, Atomx, Inthesto and Surprisingly Requiett have clearly kept telling you this. Your trips at the bank in your days are probably not the same as mine.
Deal with change and stop your complaining. I remember back at winmx where we used to make amvs for eachother, we were friends and everything. Then the org was born and everyone stepped up their game from there on.
Your expierience in 2003 were probably different from mine in that year. I could say how much 2003 sucked.
Euphoria was made in 2003, I thought that sucked at the time. of course there would be those who said diff.

I believe the permanent ban was put in place for saying "sup niggas?" but I'll have to consult my logs. This wretched linguistic transgression was particularly outstanding because two years prior I made the gross mistake of posting a link to a girl with pretty eyes.com in the channel, and so was under heavy scrutiny by moderation. Of course, at that time I had just come back from a long hiatus, and when I had left a girl with pretty eyes linking was still an AMV chat tradition. It became apparent that things had already changed dramatically by 2005.Nessephanie wrote:what did you do to get banned, that you call so childish? (sorry, sparked my curiosity >_>)
Edit: Found it.
Basically AES got offended at my tongue-in-cheek use of clearly highly-sensitive racial slurs and the "moderation team" decided to submit to her authority for whatever reason, despite the fact that Alan, Jay, and occasionally Jeremy are generally sensible people.#AMV 8-26-07

The funny thing is, I used to be ops and a member of #amv-staff. But that was before any of the kiddies that run the place today took over. NME and I watched that place spiral out of control after birthing it with the cooperation of AD. This kind of thing is exactly what I was talking about in the original post.
