but at the same time flaming such people (as it seems you did) isn't going to make this forum any better, nor will coddling them... but I don't think that forcing them into a single forum will help either, it will just hide what you don't want to see... its like sweeping the dirt under the rug but not really cleaning it up...
and as TJ said (and I think what I was getting at with my earlier posts about who will make the decision on when they can come to the "big boy forum" stuff) is that people who might not be newbs will be forced to post in the newb forum if they haven't passed whatever standards (post counts or whatever) put on the forum
you could however just leave it to the people (like me - specifically in that thread) who are willing to answer those kinds of questions without chewing them out or angrily "pointing to signature banners" that explain in a few rude words that they should "read the damn rules" (especially when they were asking about things that are NOT exactly explained in the rules)...
A lot of people also have the misconception that this site is also ONLY a forum since you have to sign up through the forum, it's a pretty easy mistake to make.

(I'm not flaming the kid, I'm just trying to quickly purge him of his ""newb" status by giving him the info he needs to get started)
as for my point.
I was using this as an example as how most newbs don't even read most of the time. they just run around vainly searching everywhere for answers they could have in minutes if the effort was put out.
now if my dashboard idea were put forth(I'm not trying to impose my idea)
the user would have registered, loged in, and the first thing he would have seen would be a list of links, with stickies directed towards uploading, rules, posting, pointless threads, ect
with coinciding the faq and search option, along with pms and member main page.
yes the user could just click the "forum" or "home" link to get back to the main forum, but it would most certainly throw a fork in the road as to getting him start.
-should I look here for my topic of choice?
-or should I go to the main forum and randomly click links until I see something familiar and post there without reading a single informative link or faq.
I'm not trying to pry or flame or shoot the same idea over and over, but I've been to another forum where they had a dashboard system, and everytime you loged in, you would go to the dash and the first thing you see is a box that has the rules in it, and you click the link and read the full message.

What this idea sounds like it's kinda morphing into is some want a single collection point of noobs so they can deal with them in a nice orderly way, like nazi's tattooing serial numbers on jews or something. That requires the admins to setup the concentration camp and it requires the admins to organize the crystalnacht to herd the noobs to that camp. This was unlikely to occur at the start of this and now an admin has pretty much flat out rejected it. Too bad, personally I think eugenics has gotten a bum rap over the last century. Somehow I doubt anyone wants mass murder to be the end result anyway. Pussies.
So why don't you guys just do the opposite then? Instead of herding noobs to the beginners info herd the beginners info to them. Someone gather up into one post the picture guide to uploading, the idiots guide to downloading, the braindead morons guide to not linking to youtube, etc. Issue a call in GAMV for people to volunteer for noob patrols then one of you just post the form response whenever you see a noob wandering around unsupervised. AFAIK jaddzia has something very similar to this already so it's not like it's even require all that much work to gather this shit in one spot.
This way we'd have noobs coddled like the precious little snowflakes they think they are, we'd have an easy way to answer the exact same question over and over and over and over again, and no one would have to pester the admins to do jack shit. Because honestly, if you wait for the admins to magically solve our problems then nothing will ever get done. Not that I'm blaming them, they got better things to do with their time. But Christ it gets tiring to see constant calls for the admins to do this or that when half the time the users could do it their own fucking self.

There is no resolution to the noob issue unless you happen to have a hacksaw, handcuffs, 50 gallons of gasoline, and a book of matches. However this isn't all that feasible since I suspect the birth rate on noobs is far higher than how quickly you could kill them. So I guess maybe someone should try something that might work for a change.JaddziaDax wrote:thats not a resolution it's a summery.,,,
