Forum Member status.

Post by Brolli411 » Mon Nov 04, 2002 3:34 pm

I have noticed that on some other message boards/Forums they have such things as "Member in training" or "Senior Member" under the Avatar. Some have it based on how long they have been a member, or how many post they have made. Theses could be a good idea at this site, so people can just see if maybe this member is a newbie. I know I'm not the only one who has clicked a message, then it comes to be a newbie asking for hosting or how to put their video on the site.

I know you can just go into their member info and see for how long they have been a member, but just for the sake of time and to avoid being annoyed. Just a suggestion.

I am sorry but I have to disagree with you. You cannot really tell if someone is new or not just by counting the number of posts he/she made.

I've been here from almost the beginning (member id 529 :)) but I only have a bare hundred of posts (with the new forum): does this make me a newbie? :P

Forum activity is far different from AMV activity and/or experience in general.

Well you do make a point, but like I said, some of the sites evaluated on how long they have been a member too, this could also work out. And if a more complicated approach is made, the two can be combined for maybe a more accurate assumption.

I agree with turboneko. Peoples' obsession with post count is bad enough, no need to add more fuel to the fire by actually giving high and low posters titles.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Those are ranks. Really they mean nothing and are just for fun. I wouldn't mind employing them personally but make them arbitrary stuff that has nothing to do with anything.

One of the board I am on has lows like...
Chibi
Jusenkyo Tourist
Reelena's Groupi

Highs such as:
Kagato's apprentice
Newtype
Dark Warlord

So like I said, I wouldn't mind employing them but they shouldn't have anything to do with anything.

I see that most people don't like this idea. (duh) You have a good point Kusoyaro. I forgot about the spamming problems that the site has had. With the kind of Spam we get, Klinky could be a Dark Warlord....hahahaa.

Yeah I agree with Kusoyaro and turboneko. Other than what they've said, I think it will put "value" on peoples' posts and that will mislead others. It doesn't matter whether someone is a newbie or not, they can still make a valid point or contribute in some way.

Regarding teh spamming proble, that is a difficulty with the ranks. There was one guy on the board who made a thread with 10 consecutive replies from him alone just so he didn't have to be "Reelena's Groupie" anymore. As for me, I have 5,000+ posts on that board, I'm the top rank...power to me...

if we could get a karma system, that wouldn't be too bad to have ranks based on the karma of a member rather than postcount.
