And who "made that definition"?

For me everything that's listed as effects in the editing software is an effect.

I go by:
AbsoluteDestiny wrote:Examples of special effects include masking, rotoscoping, colour manipulations, 2D and 3D original animation, image distorting, warping, morphing, transitions and so on.

Dissolves, fades and fast cuts are not special effects.

don't tell me you say if a Video has strobes and flashes it also should be listed as "Video with effects" in the catalog?! :?
Actually, I'm not sure how 2D or 3d original animation is an effect. Thats kind of stupid. Creating footage is not the same as manipulating footage.

It's something put in by the editor to alter the visual experience - ergo, an effect.

Technically "raw editing" is cuts, fades, and transitions only. Stuff you can do in a television studio with buttons and swtiches

Anything else is considered an effect.

1. Pace
2. Sync (internal, lyrical, beat etc)
3. Effects
4. Originality
5. Visual
6. Review
7. Audio Quality

So Im guessing my Pace you mean flow. Which definietely has to be the most important cause great amvs dont need fx and sync always and flow just seems to be they key thing and connection for amvs.

No i mean if i draw and animate something, it in and of itself is not an effect, if it's composited into some other footage then yes the compositing is an effect, but simply drawing and animating your own stuff is not an effect. but the definition kev is referring to says it is. lame.

I should have quoted - wasn't responding to what you were saying, but what he was.
