Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations

Post by algelic » Wed Dec 19, 2007 10:22 am

Hi everyone! :D

I made a new AMV (my second one so far) using the Tokyo Revelations OVA from Tsubasa Chronicle. The song is "Synchronicity" by Yui Makino (well, composed by Yuki Kajiura but sung by Yui). I used the short version (used as OP in the OVA).

I made it last night and posted it online, but today I made some changes (improvements) and then uploaded it here. The only change is that the version on YT has some bad-quality audio... while the version on a-m-v.org has a different, much higher quality, music.

Check it out and please comment! :)

Tokyo Revelations - Synchronicity (High Quality)

or if you just want to watch it (in worse quality)... search for it on YT.

I didn't understand what you were trying to do with the source.

The was very little sync of any type. The cuts moved far slower than either Yui's voice, or the underlying harmonies. I couldn't follow any type of story development. In brief: what was happening?

Visually, pixelation was pretty bad, with macroblocking consistent throughout. I know you admitted to using fansubs, but I still think you managed to recompress (and overcompress) this. It shouldn't have been this bad at a high enough resolution as it was. Also, I question your decision to include the final sub. You said it was intentional, but since I failed to see the significance to the story telling, it just seemed to mar an already problematic visual.

You still did better than most people have with first or second videos, so I commend you on that. However, I would advise you to spend more than two and a half hours on your next project, or even go back to the project files for this one. I see potential here. I like the song, the source seems reasonably full of scenes, even with your cutting around the subs. Better would be to procure a copy without subtitles. How you procure it is your business, and I official advocate only getting the R2.

Good luck.

Thank you! :)

I know I still have a loooong way to go before I can reach the level of most people here.

I honestly thought the «story» would be easy to follow to someone who had watched the whole Tsubasa Chronicle anime or read the manga. I wanted to show the impact of the «other» Syaoran awakening. Oh well! The OVA was a bit confusing even without me messing with it!

Anyways... thanks for pointing me out my mistakes. I'll definitely try to improve my skills in this.

PS: Not to make up excuses or anything, but windows movie maker does lack any cool special features. Unfortunately it's the only program I can work with. The others I've tried are way too complicated for me. I'll re-make this video next week, when I get a break from college!

By even having anything remotely consistent, you're at a higher level than most org members. If you mean the regulars, well, a lot of us have been at this for years. So, it's always a double-edged sword comparing yourself to experts in a field where you're new. It helps you improve rapidly, but it can also be very discouraging.

And people are better at some aspects right out the bat than others. My first AMV has subtitles, and mixes VHS and DVD footage, is horribly pixelated, and only uses straight cuts. I believe it is still strong in sync, but it's lacking in many other ways.

You can do straight cuts with WMM and that's all you really needed. I presume it can also do simply cross-dissolves, but I've never used it, so I don't know for sure. And if you're in college, I was using Adobe Premiere in high school. It has a steep learning curve in the beginning, but once you get used to it, it's very easy to use. There are plenty of tutorials around now too. And I know the others couple help you out with Magix or Vegas, which I am not familiar with.
