Has this happened at other cons? This seems absolutely absurd! Whoever felt the need to impersonate this person just to enter a contest is one sad, sad individual. I thought it was only right to show this to the AMV community at large. Those running contests: Be more careful than I was in 2005!Randomly, I typed in Google my handle of HANDLE... Strangely enough I came across an old Archon AMV contest thread from 2005.
...
Either I'm losing memory faster than I thought, or someone tried to Hijack my video "VIDEO" for a contest?
I'm not sure what the rules were for that year but looking at 2006's rules, my video should have been disqualified. It came out about a month or two on a-m-v.org before it was "entered"...
Not to mention I didn't enter it.
This is somewhat frustrating to me, as I had never planned on entering that video for a contest, and I certainly did not want it shown at a convention.
I know that this was a long time ago, and that it really shouldn't matter anymore... I just wanted to inform you that this happened, so that it can be prevented in the future. If my video had won, I am fairly certain that whoever hijacked the video would have taken the prize for himself.
A suggestion that I would like to add is an identification check via Email from the Email stated under the a-m-v.org profile page of the person submitting. As only that member can change the profile page it would show it is indeed him.

Editors impersonating other editors to win prizes?
I just recieved a rather disturbing email. Names and the name of the video in question have been blanked to keep the emailer anonymous for the time being. He can come out if he wants.

I don't remember the details but I do recall hearing it happened other times. I don't think verifying email off the orgs database would work though, a lot of users don't make their email publicly available and even if everyone did there's no reason to force users to join the org to enter a contest the org isn't directly hosting.
Perhaps a public apology for not catching it in time, including of course names of who did what, just before the first showing of the next contest so the relevant community knows what happened? Or as an alternative have the only prize be a certificate so there's nothing but bragging rights involved and it becomes basically as unimportant as a youtube theft.

If this con takes place in Victora, Canada then yes, I think so...Tsunami Jones wrote:Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there one contest awhile back for a smaller con where the coordinator just "entered" in videos that they liked without asking the creators?
I few years back they had a contest were they just entered a bunch of video (really sounds to me like more a favorates contest)... I did mention to a few people at AE when I heard about it that I thought it's not in good forum to just enter videos and call it a contest without asking, however I never did talk to the organizers directly about it so I don;t know the whole story...
That is one reason I ask for personal info for my contests and confirm with the e-mail address (I try to cross reference that as much as possible), but there is no way to totally garantee somone does not just send it soneone elses video in any contest...

Kind of the opposite scenario and I won't go into the gory details, but someone has asked for me to make an AMV for them for a contest and then have them enter it as THEIR OWN work before. They offered me payment, but I obviously declined.
I guess what I'm saying here is, I'm not at all surprised folks would do such retarded things...
