Looking for a music video

Post by themuzic » Mon Nov 26, 2007 5:51 am

We manage unsigned UK indie rock band Drugmule and we're looking into the possibility of creating an Anime music video for a single release next year.

As the band are unsigned money is tight so we're looking for somebody looking for a project preferably without payment to create a high quality video for the track.

Our hope is that the track will get good radio play and therefore will go hand in hand that it should get decent plays on MTV, Kerrang etc

Hopefully this could be a great project for somebody and could lead to great promotion.

If anyone is interested in knowing more about the track or after an exciting project please let me know via PM.

You can hear the track at www.myspace.com/drugmule

The track is called Sly.

Us AMV artists aren't "hip" enough for AMV.

I think I'll stick to the internets.

while it sounds like an interesting project, im curious how you plan to deal with legal issues related with using the anime sources?

The Question is do we want that?

I think that's the best option right now

Yes, distributing it through the net using a system that is not directly tied to the band is the best choice.

Unless you pay for the license to use the anime of course. If you don't pay for the license, even if you don't sell the video, and it never gets played on TV, if you were found to endorse it or use it as promotion, you could be taken to court and sued. Your endorsement of the video, even if you are not distributing it yourself, would constitute a commercial use of the video content. A free advertisement is still an advertisement, and could potentially gain money...

the most promotion you will get out of a video made with anime and by one of us would be promotion here... you couldn't put it on mtv or anything...

Still its awesome to hear bands out there still promoting "remix culture" :3

/me listens
the vocals sound a bit drowned out >.>

But hey. There are some bands that are REALLY famous here.

Or do you really think I would know SR-71, Trust Company, Thousand Thoot Cruch,...
without amvs?
You can find me on YT under "Bauzi514". Subscribe to never miss my AMV releases. :amv:

A good idea might be to buy some royalty-free footage from a place like iStock Video, get a good editor (like one of us here) and use that. Using copyrighted footage for commercial use is sure to get you a C&D at the very least.

Imagine a theme, get some good shots of your band playing, royalty-free footage, and BAM, you've got a very professional looking music video. I'd be willing to help you out personally. I sent you a PM.

Yes, using stock footage is a good idea, and I'm sure some of the editors here could learn to work with real life footage, especially if you have some shots of the band playing. THAT could get commercial distribution.

I was just pointing out that unless you wanted to pay the (likely very expensive) fee to get the right to use the anime in your video, you'd get a C&D at best, and at worst, a lawsuit if you are seen directly promoting the video.
