footage-> AVI -> something I can edit with?

Post by Faeyas » Fri Nov 02, 2007 4:34 pm

I don't fully understand how to do this conversion. My normal way usually works, but this file doesn't want to convert that way, and apparently Editing AVIs crashes programs. Since this is the only format this footage wants to convert into How do I make it into something I can play with?

I have no idea what these Viddub programs are and would prefer NOT to download more programs. I use Replay for my conversions and I edit with Windows Movie Maker.

I have never gone into this realm before, so you will have to treat me like a noob when explaining this. I understand Basic AMV language, I have been doing this for a while.

Thank you! <3

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room

^^; as helpful as that is it brings me to two problems, 1. I download a program fully to fix a problem in another program and 2. I create very large files I like for the most part avoiding.

Thank you though :)

I'm told that huffyuv is the least likely to crash/lock up wmm... not to mention its lossless and that means you shouldn't lose any video quality... however... here is a list of "editable codecs" if you want to take a chance on another one..

1. the program is available for FREE on this site (and that program pack comes with Huffyuv as well as several other highly useful programs.)

2. PLAN YOUR VIDEO MORE and take only the clips you need... that way you don't have to convert scenes you will never use.

1) HuffyYUV is better, but I've heard it takes more processing power than Lagarith or Uncompressed.

2) Very large files are what you'll deal unless you plan on using Avisynth to edit with.

I've been told that Lagarith gets buggy in WMM by several people..

and I don't think that WMM has any "avisynth plug ins" that I'm aware of (anyone can correct me if I'm wrong about this) so it seems that "large files" is what they ware going to have to deal with O.o

Really? I'd always heard that Lagarith was slower to decompress than HuffYUV (and it certainly seemed rather slower the one time I worked with it).

What error message do you get? You're probably lacking a VfW codec that can decode the AVI.
