Clara once again you fail to see the true meaning. A sketch is not merely a quick drawing. It also means a scenario. Which is Excel Saga or Dragon Half.

I only briefly (By that I mean read one sentence) of your fuitile replies, and found that error in it. I can only imagine what train-wreck the other's create. I will never understand people like you. You are unwilling to see the truth, and live inside your own little world. I cannot wait till you pass through puberty and receive a college education. Then you will see how wrong you are. Or maybe you're so stubborn that you will not...which is quite possible ;>.>

Anyway, thank you at least for providing reasons. Even though every one of them was incorrect, I'm glad you finally showed active participation in the discussion instead of waving your flag.

One thing that I was wondering about in the last debate..

So many people were saying that Cartoon=Animation and Anime=Animation so Anime=Cartoon ... so that means we can call things like Beavis and Butthead or Rugrats "anime"? I know "anime" means all animation in Japan, but not in America...
I don't mean to start the argument going again--just interested in a friendly explanation.

I think the idea here is not to look in any dictionary but to accept that things are the way they are.

I think we should look at how things are marketed maybe! Maybe that will help define things.

Fruits Basket: Anime

Big O: Cartoon

Evangelion: Anime

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cartoons


There are some fuzzy parts, such as Pokemon or Dragon Ball Z.

However, both of those are marketed as anime over in japan. Big O or Ninja turtles or Batman animated adventures may have been animated in japan but were marketed in the US as a cartoon.

Simpson's, Family Guy, King of The Hill are NOT anime. They're american cartoons, or american animated series.

Lemme show a example scenario here:
Someone who posts: "I LIKE ANIME!!!"
Reponse: "oh, we'll I like looney toons, I like ninja turtles, so we like the same thing"
Someone: "No, I was talking about Evangelion or Dragon Ball Z, that kind of stuff".
Reponse" No!! Anime in japanese means 'animation', it doesn't mean anything else, just animation!!! So how about those looney toons, that's some good animation".

Does that make sense!?

You have a entire fanbase setup around anime as being most all types of Japanese animation. You don't see people talking about the simpsons on AnimeBoards.com, does AnimeNation sell simpsons DVDs? No.

"Anime" is a fan term,it does not mean the same thing as something from a Japanese dictionary.
