Xvid avi to mp4?
Using ZarxGUI, could I do this without (much) video quality loss or would I want to first make it uncompressed with VDubMod?

It seams so pointless. If you recompress something you loose qualtiy and maybe need more filesize too. Just keep them in XviD. That´s one of the best things you can do now.
Not really. Not even when you set the quality settings of the encode really high.Using ZarxGUI, could I do this without (much) video quality loss

x2 . That way you'll just waist your time, since uncompressing doesn't improve the quality..Zarxrax wrote:And when you say "first make it uncompressed", do you mean convert the xvid to an uncompressed file? Because that would be pointless.
x2 here too. H264 may be placed in .mkv too,or even .ogm(though that's very rare). Outside of this side, most popular h264 container is .mkv , not .mp4.Qyot27 wrote:MP4 ≠ H.264
Since the only way to compress trough Zarx264 is AviSynth, then you can just filter them a bit more. The Original Head Hunter wrote:Using ZarxGUI, could I do this without (much) video quality loss or would I want to first make it uncompressed with VDubMod?
I agree. Even though I tried recompressing few old AMVs,just to save some space and increase the quality,I still deleted new versions, since I like the originals and I just want to keep them as they are. There's no real need to recompress anything.Bauzi wrote:It seams so pointless. If you recompress something you loose qualtiy and maybe need more filesize too. Just keep them in XviD. Unless, of course, you want to play it in a portable device of some sort.Rapture** wrote:There's no real need to recompress anything.
If you recompress you'll still have all the compression ugliness of XviD, plus more new compression ugliness from the AVC compressor. You could filter the videos, but it seems a big waste of time for saving perhaps 500kB per minute of video...
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

By this I meant Uncompressing it and Compressing it again.Gepetto wrote:Unless, of course, you want to play it in a portable device of some sort.
Unless of course you use shit load of filters and then create a 2nd pass h264 file,it can look way more beautiful than before, but I agree with you, that's just a waste of time.Gepetto wrote:If you recompress you'll still have all the compression ugliness of XviD, plus more new compression ugliness from the AVC compressor.
