Agreed, However thats assuming you can get yourself into a hotel room. I caught up with pilk and spent the night in his room. but only on Thursday night, I came back like seven or so times and the bastard was never there. I'm just making that offer so that people will know they have a place to crash and, you know, actually GO to the con.

unlike a certain list of people.

Its not to say some of them had other good reasons, (unlike skipping awa for a video game) its just that some people didn't come since they couldn't afford it nor find a place to stay. and heck, if I can help bringing more people to the con, imma gonna try...

I live like... 10 miles from AWA (or did, before I started going to college) and my fun level upped itself by 500% once I got a hotel room.

While I was really broke this year, I could've stayed at my parents house instead of pay for a hotel room. But if I had done that, I wouldn't have had any fun at all, considering most of my fun at AWA was had between 10pm and 2am.

yeah I live about a 20 minutes ride up I75 from AWA and I only made the mistake the first year I went... its a big hassle going home every night. Theres nothing quite like waking up and walking out into the con.

Any con can be epic as long as you go with the right people. I've been to many a small con (500- attendees) and had some of the best times at them because the people I went with made our own 'events' and just had a blast. True, sometimes guests and events and stuff in the dealers room can help make a con, but it's those peeps you hang out with that make it all awesome.

I'm glad I lost a little weight over the weekend having to walk a mile between the con and my hotel, uphill, both ways, but overall I think I had more fun during the day last year even if I didn't stay around the con at night last year (my fiancee drug me around town.) Next year I'm staying at the con hotel... I'll just have to figure out how to sneak in some liquor, but at least I wont have to take my fiancee back to the hotel at like 3 AM and miss the good stuff in the late night panels.

how about 4 cents + a house for all the drunk bastards that get kicked out of the hotel?
ya know I live about 5 miles from AWA and I even offered anyone the freedom to crash there. However no one took me up on that offer. Its FAR too early to say so, but you can guess the offer will be availible next AWA.

oh yeah, one thing. Apparently my roommates are terrified of cosplayers (they don't even know the word anime...). during the weekend they noticed the cosplayers everywhere. they stayed locked in their rooms until about tuesday.

so if anyone would want to crash at my apartment you can't cosplay (come to think of it I might have to add some other rules so that both my roommates and housing will say off my ass...)

What the fuck

Man I live 4-5 hrs away from the con, the hotels are way too fucking expensive. The last two years I've been staying at the Mariott Courtyard Cumberland, which is $89 dollars a night. I think an apartment might be more comfortable since most hotels have this non-smoking policy.

I cannot speak for everybody else about hotel rooms, but I'm at the point in my life where I can actually afford to stay in the Con hotel if there's still rooms available.

However, I stayed at the Embassy Suites in 2004 and the Courtyard in 2005, but only because I couldn't get a room at the Renaissance. Both are fine, fine hotels, both are close to AWA, and both are much cheaper (relatively) than the Renaissance. I myself would rather stay where pretty much all the action is. The closer the hotel is to the convention, the more fun I find it to be. (I'm pretty sure the Sheraton is also a fine, fine hotel; most of the other AMVers here prefer to stay *there* for AWA.)

yeah last year was the only year I haven't stayed at the con hotel because they over booked and we got booted to one down the road. The difference between taking the shuttle (or the really long walk) and just going downstairs is immense...although I know some people stay in the overflow hotels every year for various reasons.

Although really its about the people... if your sharing a room with good people or hanging out with them THAT is what makes a good con.
