I do have a lot of projects in development right now, but there's one I'm dieing to complete before all others.
At the risk of having someone else rip-off my idea, I am not going to divulge all the details just yet. Maybe down the line when I'm nearly done, but not yet. All I'll say is this:
- This is a movie trailer AMV
- The Anime I want to use is "Revolutionary Girl Utena", probably more of the show than the movie.
- This will involve some complex digital effects to make it right, which it will also be my first experimentation with this
What I need is some advice from someone who knows "Utena" like the back of their hand; people who have memorized the entire anime series in detail. I myself am on episode 15 right now but will be plowing through the rest of the series one episode at a time. Please, the elements of this trailer are specific though they can be altered as necessary, but there are a few things I am looking for:
- Utena defending herself/others and in doing so building into a rage of verbal assault; screaming words in a fury
- Anthy and Touga having a moment together
- A bitter rival of Utena, I'm probably thinking Nanami
- An old man who serves as an advisor, probably the Prince
- A moment when one of the main characters is killed/murdered
- Two armies, one good and one evil, that will fight each other in mass numbers.
- If it's possible, Utena leads one army at the very head of the front, but if this isn't possible I can work around it
- Any explosions/guns. I know it's mostly a sword anime, but any type of major destruction can be used
- A plot to kill Utena herself outside the dueling arena
Like I said, I'm not very far into this show but I think I have a great idea for a trailer. Perhaps it won't reach the top 10% of all videos on here, but I'd at least like to make it for the sake of how magnificent it could be. Thank you all for your feedback.

i think the only thing you're going to have a problem with is the "army" scenes the rest of it can be pushed around a bit with the footage at hand... though some things might be just stretching it

Fair enough JaddziaDax, I think I can just use the Student Councel members in a quick montage to represent it.
The biggest part of this AMV and the most impressive is when Utena goes ballistic. I know there are many moments where she stands up for those who can't defend themselves, but I 'm really looking for when she is her most powerful.

*thinks* I don't know about the money part. Wakaba goes shopping in #20, but I don't remember whether we see her paying for anything.
The only ocean/water shots are in the curry episode, which I think is #8. There are some distant shots of water in the background (when they show the tower sometimes, and in one driving scene around ep 29 or so), but the only time that anyone is ever ON the water involves Nanami and the surfing elephants.
Rage while fighting - most of the time Utena tends to be determined rather than angry. Occasionally confused. The angriest fights are between Utena and Saionji, which would be #1, 2, and 25. She never flips out, but there's more tension and the two combatants seem to dislike each other more than in any of the other duels, so there are probably more applicable shots in those ones. As a backup, you might want to check ep 23, Utena vs. Mikage.
But that's specifically yelling - the "power" shots in this series tend to be swordfighting rather than verbal. Generally she doesn't verbally bitchslap the duelists; they flashback themselves into it, and Utena's kind of a catalyst to get them to think.
For Utena being angry in general, those four (1, 2, 23, 25) are probably your best bet, along with the next to last episode (38).
Anthy and Touga only have moments together in the part you've already passed, which is ep 11/12, IIRC. (curse the first two DVDs not listing episode numbers. I'm lazy.
) There's also one short dream sequence; I think it's in "Nanami's Precious Thing".
The only advisor figures are Akio and Mikage, and both of them have, um, issues... If you're not using Akio as the villain and don't mind doing something weird, he has a string of mentor-esque meetings with Utena during the middle of the series - I think that was actually during the Black Rose arc (14-24).
The prince never actually talks, if that's not a problem, but he shows up in 13 and 39 along with a couple of shorter shots here and there.
Army, yeah, you're gonna have to craft that out of other things. The only crowds are happy-looking high-schoolers.
Explosions, there are a couple of car crashes late in the series (29 and 35 come to mind), and some property damage in 10 (? Castle Where Eternity Dwells) and 39, but as a whole, the series is woefully short on stuff blowing up.
...hope that helps even a little. I did have to look up the episode numbers, in my own defense. >_>

lol, I hope all the silly details like explosions and sea shots didn't make me sound like an amateur kid, it's just that the trailer I'm using has certain sound effects that can't be ignored or skipped over.
I think I might as well say which movie trailer this is for, seeing as how I'm begining to re-think my anime choice and another may work better. The trailer is for the movie, "Elizabeth - The Golden Age". After seeing it Utena was my first thought on the title Cate Blanchette character.
It starts with Elizabeth (Utena) asking an old man for advice, then rolling into a sequence of discussing the Spanish Armada's advance toward England. We then move over to Sir Walter Raliegh (Touga) saying, "The more gold you give me, the safer you will be." Even you can't say the two characters aren't alike. Then a Spanish ambassador tells her that the Spanish is a "...wind that will sweep away your pride." As to which Elizabeth tells him "I TOO can command the wind sir! I have a hurricane in me that will strip Spain bare if you dare to try me!!!" This line is where our heroine goes completely ballistic with her verbal attack.
There's more to it that than, but to be honest that much detail is difficult to read and harder to type. There are scenes with ships attacking each other on the open sea, cannon fire, Elizabeth standing alone on the edge of a cliff with teh wind blowing in her hair, etc. I think it would be a great trailer to use for an effective AMV, but if "Revloutionary Girl Utena" doesn't have as much as is needed I might have to look elsewhere for my anime source.
