I would tend to agree though. It's got a fair bit of RPG elements, but all in all, I'd call it an action/adventure game. RPG's, to me, don't have to be turn based (morrowind isn't, but it's an RPG), but this game just doesn't seem... I dunno... enough RPG to qualify as RPG. To me, an RPG needs to allow you significant control over how your character or characters develop. This game offers none. Your characters level up, and get stats automatically. That may have been fine back in the day of SNES and Genesis RPG's, but these days, true RPG's give you a lot of freedom in how you build your character up over time.

hmmm....well, my definition of RPG is when a character is deeply involved in the storyline and the character itself changes from the begining to the end. You play the role of a character and from your decisions you shape the game.
just having the character build up as being the element of RPG makes the game seem more like strategy to me.

So what it was an RPG Action/Adventure game? With your clever but deeply faulted analogy to nationalities, you merely assumed the surrounding category was RPG's. The name is a combination of the two and inseperable. It would be assasine to say to your friend, "I got this new RPG Kingdom Hearts". And you'd sound like a freak if you said "I got this new action/adventure RPG Kingdom Hearts." Which is why I often describe to my aquaintances in person "It's kinda like an RPG because you can gain levels n' stuff, but other than that it's completely different". The genre is one unto its own and rests between the two.is an action/adventure RPG still an RPG....... the answer to all of this is yes
In conclusion, if you're going to call it an RPG, you might as well accept someone else calling it Action Adventure.

According to that analogy though, almost every game with characters in it is an RPG. Deus Ex, by this description, is an RPG. Deus Ex, however, is not an RPG. It's more like a FPS/Action-Adventure with some RPG elements.gadoo wrote:hmmm....well, my definition of RPG is when a character is deeply involved in the storyline and the character itself changes from the begining to the end. It is an RPG. RPG stands for Role Playing Game. In this game, you play the role of Sora, who is taken through a mystical adventure involving a crack-headed duck and a brain-dead dog, its that simple. The story is extremely similar to any FF game and that's good enough for me. *SPOILER* Anyone got any tips for Sephiroth? He and that crazy thing at the the clocktower in Neverland are the only two things left for me to beat. I just hate that damn Sin Harvest. Nine out of ten times I stop it, but that one time always gets me...

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.
