Advice to new AMV makers

Post by missind33 » Sun Aug 19, 2007 7:45 pm

Is there any advice you would give to people new to making AMVs that you wished someone told you? About what makes a good AMV, a good program, things to avoid, what to expect, how long it takes to be a "AMV master", etc. I'm quite new so I wouldn't trust anything I say.

you can be at it for years and never rise from below average. Time isn't what matters, it's effort.

Advice I wish someone gave me: If you ever have a deadline, start really early, because after working on a project for 100+ hours it can still have plenty of minute flwas and you'll be so sick of dealing with it to fix them at the last minute.

Advice I give to others: Dedicate the hours you need - learning isn't always an easy process, it can take substantial amounts of time.

Make what you want. Ignore what anyone else tells you that you should or shouldn't make.

This is good advice. Friends will lump ideas on you that "zomg will be awesome!!!1" and most of them will suck and you won't be into doing them anyways.

That said, sit on an idea for a while. See how it feels after the first spark goes through your brain. With second thought, most "awesome at first" ideas reveal themselves to be one trick ponies - decent enough if you're doing a hell rip-off, but not good enough for a stand-alone project.

Btw again I am pretty new to AMV making (and I really have no one else to ask these stupid questions because outside of a-m-v.org there's no one that I know that makes AMVs). But...What makes a good AMV? What do you look for, and what bugs you in an AMV? What are most important in an AMV? Perferably I do mainly action, but what makes an action AMV good? I'm sorry but I had no one else to ask these questions

things to avoid: Negative comments and flames. just don't care about them.
Programs: Every program has a good tutorial in its Help file.

What makes a good AMV? Whatever you think it does! And I ain;t making fun i really think so.

An advice from me: If you're good at drawing ,poem writing or composing, do that more often than AMV"s.
