Biggest Advent Children AMV gripes

Post by DriftRoot » Thu Aug 09, 2007 11:11 am

I've been stuck on dial-up for the past eight months, so I haven't been able to download many of the thousands of Advent Children AMVs out there, but I DO know there's a lot of complaints circulating about them. I've heard that folks are overusing the omnislash segment, that Sephiroth isn't getting enough air time, that certain scenes inevitably show up, etc. etc.

I was just wondering if people who have watched more than a few of these AMVs could relate their own 2 cents on the issue. I'm almost done with an Advent Children AMV (ducks rotten tomatoes) and while I make no apologies for it, I'd kind of interested in knowing ahead of time what footage people are going to criticize me for using. :)

I have only one complaint so far: utterly random AC fight scenes all cut up and then mishmashed together (which I assume was done JUST to break them up) is annoying.

I haven't watched a lot (two or three) but to address some of the complaints you hear.

About omnislash - maybe it's overused maybe it's not but keep in mind that when you are dealing with a source that is only two hours long that doesn't leave a lot of footage comparatively speaking. So the odds that you'll see the same shots betwen videos is significantly higher when teh source is only the lenght of maybe four tv episodes.

About Sephiroth - this is a dumb complaint really, it's only possible source can be crazy sephiroth fanboys/fangirls who just want to see more of him when that probably isn't even the reason for the video (and he was in what? Five minutes of that whole movie?)

Really teh only complaint about Advent Children videos is the same thign with Naruto and DBZ. So many people are making them that you have to sift through tons of crap to find the good stuff. Hell people were making AMVs for it when all there was to work with was two or three trailers.

I completely agree about complaints regarding "overusing" footage from a short OVA/movie/series...we can't snap our fingers and magically make all sorts of new scenes appear JUST to show something different. I mean really, with so many A.C. AMVs out there, is there REALLY going to be one that shows something that's rarely shown? Probably not.

Footage wise probably not. However there's always room for new ideas.

That's jsut reliant on how creative you are. (Both in terms of concept and editing)

If you want some FF7 footage that isn't as overused, you could always get some slightly less used Dirge of Cerberus footage or wait till September and get your hands on a psp, and a japanese copy of Crisis Core. But whatever you do, don't download the iso to the game.

This AMV is already made, I don't need more footage (though I do happen to have DoC stuff waiting in the wings to be paired with A.C. footage for a different project ).

I don't like the footage because it's not light enough... I sometimes have trouble telling what's going on.

Here's my complaint:

Fuck you if you've ever made an Advent Children video.

I'd say the problem isn't overused footage but such a large portion of AC videos just plain sucking. If you know what you're doing, then overused footage is the least of your problems and one shouldn't use it as an excuse.
