Usable Video Game Footage?

Post by Cambdoranononononono » Sat Aug 04, 2007 2:34 am

Are Sonic games considered to be "anime" enough in style that AMVs using footage from them might be posted here?

Also, if I made a video with Kingdom Hearts footage that focused on a particular Disney character, would it be appropriate for this site?

I sort of feel that the answers to these are "yes" and "no", respectively, but I thought I'd get some opinions from people who might be more familiar with the subject.

Unless you're doing your own animation, style has nothing to do with it - it's all about where (and for what audience) it was produced.

Huh. I was going by the site definition of anime and AMV: "Games must be in the style and spirit of anime (not based on North American or other country icons)."

Thinking about this more, I suppose this means that Sonic qualifies. I'm a little uncertain about the Kingdom Hearts question, though -- while the games themselves are only partially based on North American icons, videos focusing on Disney characters would more fully based on North American icons. It seemed to me that these would follow the wording without really considering the practice. You're saying that they would still be appropriate? (I just want be completely certain.)[/quote]

Disney did nothing but let Square Enix use the Disney Characters and thats it. Square Enix did most of the work over all. The characters however that were created with Kingdom hearts is acceptable as anime inspirated. After all it did have final fantasy, so I would say yes u could use it.

I'd ask a mod on the sonic issue, but KH is fine.

Okay.

. . .

Mods: Do Sonic games count as "anime"?

P.S. Darn. I really was trying to be careful about where I put the topic.

i bet if you mixed the game with the sonic anime it would be fine (note: im not a mod)

I'm not sure what they would think of sprites or cut scenes from the newer games...

if youre planning on using both sources for 1 video you should be able to list it because KH is acceptable

hypethetically, having just Disney characters technically kind of goes against the principle of Anime.

HOWEVER, based on the definition we are working with, the fact the Kingdom Hearts is Japanese based, and for the majority has anime characters, it's still considered anime.

To clarify, Sonic and Kingdom Hearts would be in separate videos, and the footage would be from the games, not related anime.
