Quu's guide on using video game footage has a section on using PlayStation 1 games on this page. I don't know if the link there still works (and the program requires ASPI to be installed, check here for more on how to do that), but Google should still find the program pretty easily.

get FFVII and FFVIII cd's first. Use PSXMC to scan all CDs from both games and it will give you STR files, extract them, save them, convert them to AVI. Load in edit program, enjoy  .

FFVIII was never released on PC. It must be an FFVIII cd burned all together with an emulator to self boot and load the game or maybe its FFXI :P. Make sure the four buttons on the bottom left of the file list are pressed, and you WILL see the files. There is a possibility that the CD is ripped, if you have not bought a pressed copy.

Actually, FF8 was released for PC. I own it so I can vouch for KristapZ's problem. The FF8 cd-rom for the PC version is formatted differently from the ps1 version. As KristapZ already stated, most of the data for each cd seems to be stored in a single file with a .pak extension. And no, I haven't got a clue as to how to locate and extract the fmv's from that file. Especially since I don't know what format the fmv's are in.

REALLY!!. This is news for me, I'll definitely check it out. Umm, for the .pak files. You can still try the Extractor program and scan the pak files for sound and video files. Moreover, you can find a pak extractor online for this, as pak files are sometimes archived using a generic archiving algorithm. I'm pretty sure Extractor will help you.

I think I managed to extract the files from the .pak file, and it ends with several .bik files... I think the video and audio are in different files? Because there are twice as many .bik files as there are FMVs on the disc. So... how do you convert .bik files to, say, avi? (and join with the audio?)
