Ideas for a James Darren AMV?

Post by TheBlackHalbardier » Fri Jul 27, 2007 8:54 am

Hello, all:

I had thought about doing an AMV to one of James Darren's Sinatra-style 'crooner tunes' after I'm finished with my newer project, but I'm in need of an anime to fit it to. (It may need to wait a couple of months before I get access to our college's Anime Club discs, but I'm in no hurry.)

Nadesico and Kanzaka's Lost Universe were my first thoughts, particularly because of the parallel with James Darren's semi-regular appearance and musical numbers on Deep Space Nine, but perhaps I might not get enough material to suit a Sinatra-style song. (Well, Nadesico maybe. Lost Universe would be a little tougher.)

Another idea that I'd been toying around with was doing a more comedic/ironic AMV to one of Darren's songs, using a comically abusive love-hate relationship between two anime characters as the fulcrum for a song like 'I've Got You Under My Skin'.

Any other ideas? I'd be grateful for any input.

i think it really depends on which song you choose on what anime you would want to do... I love Darren's newer stuff (Mostly the stuff he performed on the last two seasons as Vic Fontane) but just about any of those songs could go to any anime couple...

my suggestion if youre going to do a romancey type of amv is to choose your favorite couple...

if youre going for uber cheezy comedic value Midori Days might be great for "I've Got You Under my Skin"

Thanks, Dax! I, too, am a fan of Darren's Vic Fontaine-era work (maybe aging thirty-five years does that to you?). I'll see if we have Midori Days. That idea looks quite promising, though '04 is fairly recent for our collection and I'm not sure whether the anime club has been keeping it current in my absence...

Another possibility might be a Mullen Shetland (LastEXILE) character-profile AMV set to 'Here's to the Losers'. (Kinda misleading, though, since he didn't end up 'losing' by the end...)

this sounds like a sentimental idea, and most Last Exile videos I see are concentrated on Claus and Lavie or "vanship racing" O.o so it would definitely stick out nicely, and I'd want to snag it :)

/me is about to turn 21
I was referring to Darren, though, not myself - though my tastes in music definitely jive with someone twenty or thirty years older than me.

Stick-outiness is good, and LastEXILE is an anime I know I can get access to, so this may be the way to go...[/quote]

Eh... didn't quite mean that the way it sounded, sorry.

And yes, I think just being a fan of the show in general does tend to make one favour that work a little more... but I still think it's just plain better!

Definitely something to consider. The premise looks quite good - and there's little doubt but that it would fit the music. :D
