I've got separate folders for each year, plus another for betas.

How I organize:

All files and labeled (title of AMV - creator)

(AMV) Folders with specific anime titles where the AMV only contains that one anime.
-----(Azumanga Daioh)
-----(Cowboy Bebop)
-----(Neon Genesis Evangelion) etc.
-----(My AMVs)
-----(MEPs) Actually kept on a separate drive.
-----(Trailers) Actually kept on a separate drive.
-----(Various) For AMVs with multiple sources or ones I have few of the particular anime, sorted by genre.
----------(Action)
----------(Comedy and Fun)
----------(Drama and Romance)

I backup to another hard drive on a regular basis. DVDs would be a pain with over 70 Gb of AMVs that are constantly changing. I go through and delete stuff that either sucks or I doubt I'd watch again.

And put my favorite AMVs on my Zune. Yes I own a Zune. It's quite nice actually.

New Downloads Folder ---> Watch once (then maybe a few more times for the ones I really like) ------> Recycle Bin -----> Empty Recycle Bin

I have 1 500gb hard drive currently dedicated to AMVs. It houses all of my videos as well as my archive, and then DVD rips before I convert them to a smaller, more usable format and move them to my editing folder (on another HD.)

I have 3 basic folders, Adult AMVs, AMV Wars (videos for my event), and AMVs (non-adult stuff).

Within adult and non-adult folders I have the following folders, mpeg, my vids, new downloads, non-mpegs, non-working vids, testing mpegs. Basically, mpeg and non-mpegs is self explanatory, and duplicates are in them (since I view videos mostly on my TV via my H+ card.) New downloads is well, new crap I've downloaded before I do anything with them. testing mpegs is where all my conversions go before I make sure they worked and then put them in mpeg. Not working vids is where I put all the videos I couldn't get to convert to mpeg properly the first time, so they go there till I get them to convert right.

My non-hentai folder's mpeg folder is currently uncategorized, but before Youmacon it will be split into the main general categories, Drama, Comedy, Action, Upbeat, and MEPs.

My adult folder's mpeg folder is already categorized somewhat due to the fact that I keep getting VJs for my hentai showings that don't know the videos. It has a Hentai, MEPS, other, short clips, very little hentai, and Violent folder. I really hope this will keep my VJs from playing Bible Black romance vids during adult events... Short clips is basically good parts of Hell meps to be played randomly when needed, other is adult vids that don't have hentai in them, and so on.

Right now all of the videos in my archive are named whatever the editor called them when they uploaded them. I will eventually set them up with the following naming scheme: Creator - Vid title - anime - song when I get off my ass.

One day I finally got fed up with how disorganized my computer was so I went and reorganized all my videos, audio, photos, documents, and software. Prior to this, I never deleted the AMVs I downloaded. By the time I reorganized, I had 1500+ amvs on my computer in randomly named folders; it was difficult to figure out where my favorites were. I pretty much deleted my music folders and re-ripped my CDs so the structure would be consistent and also spent about 2 weeks watching/sorting amvs and deleted as many as 800 videos... It sucked... (180 GB of data now sorted) but now it is so convenient to have everything in a logical place.
You know, I really do like this idea. I might re-sort doing this. Actually, I just want my external harddrive to come in from the mail.

/AMVs: contains videos I haven't watched yet and screencaps of the folders that I've burned to DVD (basically an "index", sorta)
/AMVs/Guide: duh
/AMVs/Live Action: yes, I know this makes no sense, but I kept feinting toward the AMV folder when I felt like watching something and forgot about the live action, so I wound up plunking the LA videos in here -_-;
/AMVs/Mine: duh (folder for finished, folders for fairly active projects, folder for ideas)
/AMVs/To Burn: watched but not burned & purged, divided as follows:
/AMVs/To Burn/Drama & Action
/AMVs/To Burn/Humor & Upbeat
/AMVs/To Burn/MEPs

When any combination of those 3 folders reaches the neighborhood of DVD size, it gets burned to DVD, screencapped for the "index," and erased. There are 11 of those so far. Yes, I go back and watch them every so often. I'm not very good, so I'm not even close to being above my own hobby. Besides, it's fun to show them to people who haven't seen them yet.

I keep almost everything. Call it karma. ;)
