I have one big folder called "AMV Archive v2.0". Under that I have AMVs separated into six folders by genre as follows.

"Action/Adventure/Horror"
"Comedy/Fun/Dance/Uplifting"
"Drama/Romance/Serious"
"Parody/Joke/Story" (Generally footage to audio that I don't consider music goes here, like trailer parodys, or storys like "The Quest for Dokinium")
"Projects/Compilations" (Basically things like MEPs, or other odd compilations are here)
and "My Videos"

Under each of these folders I have a separate folder for each anime that the AMVs are to, and AMVs that have two or more anime in the same video go into a folder called "various."

I also label each video file by anime, video title, song/artist, and creator, and I mark the ones I consider favorites.

So yeah, I organized it pretty thoroughly. My collection got too big and I needed to categorize the videos to effectively find specific ones anymore.

If it's not directly on my desktop, then it's just randomly in my external.

Those of course are just waiting to be uploaded to ipodness. I don't keep AMVs unless I really really like them. I'm very picky.

AMVs
--->Collection
--->MEPs
--->Unviewed (where I put stuff I download until I decide what to do with it)
--->Betas

That's about it. I don't give out 4s and 5s that often, but that's all I tend to keep. Needless to say, the folder isn't that big - around 30GB last I checked.

Example might be:

I organize by year released, that's it.

Actually, no, I have another directory solely for the videos that came out of the 7.53 Seconds AMV Contest.

Folder structure for AMVs:

F: (500GB Raid 1 array)
. . . . . - Videos
. . . . . . . . . . - AMVs
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - 01. Best AMVs
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - 02. Good AMVs
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - 03. Decent AMVs
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Beta AMVs
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Classic and hard to find AMVs
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Misc AMVs (stuff like 'making of' videos or alternative versions of existing videos)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Multieditor Projects
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Totally Wrong AMVs (Hentai or 'just plain wrong!' videos)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Traileresque AMVs (Trailers or dub-overs)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Unsorted AMVs (Recently downloaded)

One day I finally got fed up with how disorganized my computer was so I went and reorganized all my videos, audio, photos, documents, and software. Prior to this, I never deleted the AMVs I downloaded. By the time I reorganized, I had 1500+ amvs on my computer in randomly named folders; it was difficult to figure out where my favorites were. I pretty much deleted my music folders and re-ripped my CDs so the structure would be consistent and also spent about 2 weeks watching/sorting amvs and deleted as many as 800 videos... It sucked... (180 GB of data now sorted) but now it is so convenient to have everything in a logical place.
