AMV terms

Most likely I picked wrong section,but since it's about AMVs..

Anyway - there are still terms which I don't really understand well around here..

Like : Lipflap - what's that?

I know terms like : Sync,overused,and many others,but there are still those I don't know about.

If someone please could tell me these kind of temrs and what they mean,I would really apreciate that. Thanks in advance.

Lip flap is when in a video the characters are talking while the music is going on and it's not supposed to be lip syncing.

It's annoying because it makes people think they're missing out on something, like "the characters are talking...and I'm not hearing anything."

When the characters move their lips in a video for absolutely no reason (IE not lipsyncing). Thinking about it, it's also a pretty good term for most of what goes on in the forums.

lip flap refers to scenes were the chars are moving their mouth for no reason (as in not being lip synced to the lyrics). When you have random mouth movement in a video it just looks weird and, for me, it doesn't make it visually enjoyable. There are exceptions of course if it's <i>purposely</i> used to tie into your videos theme and concept. I've used it a few times in my videos but most of the time i go out of my way to mask them out (see: <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... =53350">As The World Crashes Down</a>). It makes a better video IMO.

Lipflap is what cornwiggle said it is: when the character's mouth is running for no reason, in the fanvidder community they call it "the talkey face" yea...

other terms that might interest you (any of the know-it-alls can correct me if im wrong on terms):

Macroblocking:

~ when the image starts to turn into "blocks" i believe some people call this "pixelation" as well

Particles:

~usually caused by using DIVX/XVID in an editing program, the displaced squares..

Interlacing:

~the left side has interlacing, the "line distortion"

Rainbowing:

~the color distortion around the lines, usually happens in parts of the video that have drastic color differences (such as black on white)

im sure that there are more, but those are some major ones to look out for

I agree that lip flap can be annoying, but some people seem to think it's one of the seven deadly sins... Sometimes a clip just looks unnatural if you try to mask the mouth movements. In those cases I'd rather go with lip flap.
