New Texhnolyze Video
Hi, I am new to this website so I would like to say hello to everyone. Could you guys let me know what you think of my video? It may be offensive to some so if you are easily offended then don't watch it. This is my first try at making an AMV so I am interested to see what other members of the community think. I tried to make the anime story flow in order from beggining to end of the series but also constantly stay with the content of the song. I made some of my own effects and did some lip sinc but I tried not to over do anything. I didn't want to flood the video with too many effects or lip sinc the entire song. I figured I balanced it well but my opinion may not be the norm. Please let me know. Thanks.

between now and then though, Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a>
divx container(which i've been told is a ripped off AVI)=fail

Thanks for the link. Problem is I made this in Adobe and then exported it to Mpeg 2 at full quality and used filters that I felt looked the best. Then I burned it to a DVD and threw away the original file because I was stupid. Now All I have is the VOB file. I will try to use a differant editor to make a rugular AVI file that looks better if I can. What should I encode the video as? I shouldn't use Divx codec 6.5?
Ok I have the editing materials I need. What would you reccomend I record this video as and at what settings. The file needs to be under 100MB in order to be stored locally on this site. Thanks for your help.

Is all that screaming really in the song? As much as I like NIN, that really got on my nerves after a while.
The editing was a mix of impressive selection, and... wondering where the hell the editing is. In making an action video, it's advisable to try to sync to what's the song doing, a beat there, a blow to the face there, so on and so forth. I didn't notice any lip sync attempt myself, unless it was just a small part. Don't worry about going overboard with effects as long as they make sense in the context of the video. Don't use a starwipe just because it looks cool. But if the song transitions, it'd be fine to use something to transition the style of editing as well, whether a slower pace, a fade, a canned effect or something creative like what you did with the tunnel.
As far as your lyric sync goes, while it should be regarded in some degree, your much better off syncing to what the music is doing, and if it coincides with the lyrics, great, if not, it still looks good. Following the anime serves no real purpose, unless it happens to match the lyrics pretty well. When considering your viewer, assume they've never seen the show.
I'd recommend reading through this guide for cleaning up your project, and final compression. Your going to alienate a lot of your audience using bizarre formats like .divx. Really, all they need to do is rename the extension to .avi for it to play fine, but I doubt many have the patience to do that. You may also want to consider taking a look at the theory guides for a few suggestions as well.
I think I intended to write more, but I got sidetracked and am posting this over 2 hours after most of it was written. If I remember, I'll op the video.
Basically, sync more, and I'm looking forward to your next one.

Thanks, I will try to upload a regular .avi version of it soon. Also on your comment about sync. I didn't sync every thing with the sound. I did sync a considerable amount though. I made the ant on the characters face move to the song beat and I would do picture changes at base hits. Also stop animation to the beat of the snare drum and many other things. I get what you are saying though. You would rather see a video that keeps a more consant level of beat/ video sync right? Thanks again. Oh and yes all of the screaming was in the song originally.
Right now I am having problems encoding. I used virtual dub and the .avi looks horible and yet the file is larger than the one I originally encoded. How can I change the divx file to AVI without losing quality?

export from premiere with a lossless avi codec. huffy or lagarith should do fine.
then read this to get a nice h.264 mp4 http://aflux.deltaanime.net/Zero1/MP4/x264.html
one to the video - not awful, but quite boring. i looked at the duration around 1:30 and said "wait, this is over 5 minutes?"
at that point i scrubbed through looking for a better part. looks to be about the same pace all the way through
probably a bit average for a first video. sorry, but i can't watch this for 5 minutes. not interesting enough

Good greif. A newcomer that doesn't whine at critisism? Two in the last few weeks! Ack! Shock! That's impressive.
Anyway, I pretty much echo what Orwell and Minon say, and offer my assistance in any and all problems you have. Though send your questions through pm, since I don't want to turn this announcement page into a how-to guide.
Or, if you have a long list of questions and wish to discuss this outside of the org, I have MSN, or you can e-mail me at: code_chrono@yahoo.com (though I reccomend MSN or PM).

LOL yeah I bet you get alot of that. I spent about 6 hours a day for 7 days in a row making this exactly how I wanted to. Of course it is dissapointing to hear that people are unimpressed but that is what I expected when I put it up for pulbic critiqe. I don't plan to change anything cause this is what I wanted to do but I do thank you guys for your time. Overall my rating for the video isn't too bad but it could be better.code_chrono wrote:Good greif. A newcomer that doesn't whine at critisism? Two in the last few weeks! Ack! Shock! One last thing. I don't know if you guys noticed or maybe you didn't find it all that cool but I did sync up alot of stuff that is not really out in the open. I play alot of music and I did the sync with small bits. For example: here are some things to look out for.
Each flash at the beggining is done at a differant beat in the rhythm.
The rail road tracks click with the snare and each needle going into his eye is sunc with base while the image stands still.
In the main town center I also made the little picture inside the frame and added my name that had flashes with the snare drum.
The ant moves with the beat.
lip sync was done 3 times.
The part where he is about to get his arm cut off the camera moves with the beat of the song.
The video fades with the slip of the film and characters move into shadows with the same sound.
Just a few of many little touches that I put in. Maybe you saw them and were unimpressed but its cool at least I had fun doing it.
