omg.....You have Vegas but you don't even know how to rechange the settings?!
Here
1) You don't have to system restore
2) "The equalizer" as you so call it is called the grid, to enable snapping, go to Options and click any of the first four that's there and/or adjust the next two as you so fit.
3) For the automatic transition fade go to Options > and click Automatic Crossfades
4) I think for the audio go to options > click Ignore Event Grouping (I don't know for sure since I always keep my audio separate from my video until I put it into project
