Meh. I just started making AMV's last year, so retiring is way away from me. Ya'll just be stuck with me forever. (Oh noes!)

But in all seriousness, I think that retiring is foolish. If somebody has other hobbies, do them, but that somebody can always come back to making AMV's if he/she wanted. Think of it as going AWOL, but returning to take the firing squad. Wait.. Maybe not the best reference.... :?

i had a manager that once would go in and out of retirement... i kinda wished she would dropp down a well or something (she was that annoying) but yea, i know what youre talking about XD

Exactly. I don't understand why someone would need closure by "retiring". Zarxrax's point was dead on as well, so clearly anyone seriously talking about retiring from AMVs is merely making them for popularity or fame.

Christ, there's SO MUCH stuff that hasn't been done yet. AMVing is still pretty much in it's infancy, and whoever's tired of it can stop, but saying you're beyond it is just elitist, anyway you put it. Yeah, there are more complicated hobbies out there, but art never was about complication, was it?

I mean, with the whole CG thing, it feels to me like it's people saying "Hey, I'm tired of skiing. I'm moving on to snowboarding". Yeah, snowboarding is alot harder, and the possibilities trick-wise are far more diverse, but skiing is still fun as hell, and some people happen to find it more elegant and enjoyable to watch. Clumsy metaphor, but you get the idea : There are no superior artforms. With that philosophy, we might've abandoned books by now because we'd discovered the visual medium. And we'd have missed quite a few masterpieces then.

So yeah, that's my point of view, though I'm open to debate :jester:

some of those people who are claiming to "move beyond" amvs arent in this necessairly for the "hobby" aspect... they are looking to practice skillz that can make them take what they learned here and go pro with it...

i find nothing wrong with using a what is a hobby to many people to grow and learn a skill that they might want to use as a professional

This thread blows for the following reasons:

No one cares if Koop retires
Koop posted a chatlog with no content as the first post of the thread
You guys suck at discussing anything that isn't flying shapes or stupid flashing colors
AMVs are dead and discussion about them getting any better is wholly pointless
Nerds cutting anime up to radio rock is not art, never will be and it's laughable that any of you label it as such

Close and delete this pointless topic.

tldr

em, i'd lost the urge i once had to edit a while ago. its not the community getting old, actually that's the one thing about amving that does constantly change. it's more the, there's not much else new i can do and the whole mtv music video aesthetic gets too predictable.

but yeah, 'retiring' from AMVs? what would you collect pension? just stop editing/participating in community if you don't want to. its a personal choice and doesn't need to be up for public debate.

I really shouldn't even bother, but here goes anyway.

This merely proves that you clearly do not actually pay attention to what we discuss on these boards.
DropOuter wrote:AMVs are dead and discussion about them getting any better is wholly pointless
Yet somehow, people keep managing to come up with fresh, entertaining new AMVs, year after year after year. Explain that one.
DropOuter wrote:Nerds cutting anime up to radio rock is not art, never will be and it's laughable that any of you label it as such
1) You do know that there are tons and tons of AMVs that don't use "radio rock", right?
1.5) I believe you made a <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... ">video</a> with Fall Out Boy.
2) You obviously have never seen any vids like <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... 3">this</a>.

Kind of sad that your misconceptions are making you miss out on some awesome videos, but it's not like you're going to even bother reading this anyway.

Also, that "If you're reading this then you're gay" in your journal reminds me of someone else, but I can't remember who...
