special effects forum suggestion

okay if youre gonna keep it can i make a suggestion for a stickie?

perhaps a stickie on various kinds of plug-ins for various programs?

(i dont really have a list of plugins right now... but im willing to work on one after the weekend maybe)

I had already asked to lock it till all the sticky's were done but mods thought it would be fine as it was. Sticky's and such still coming I'm just busy with other things right now -_-

This, I think, reduces the whole idea of "effects" to "pick a set of plugins and go". There's at least one thread in that board which is doing quite a good job of demonstrating how there is a lot more to the process.

I don't think there's anything to be gained from such a list.

I do think the focus of the board is ill-defined, but only because the term "special effects", in the AMV community, has had its meaning grossly expanded, contorted, and distorted to the extent where you have to explicitly narrow (or widen) the scope of discussion before you can hope to have any meaningful discussion about "special effects". Fortunately, that problem is easy to address: just write the parameters at the start of the thread.

It might have been better if I phrased it as "contributes to the reduction of..."

I think that the problem with having such a list in this environment (i.e. present-day AMV community) is that it will reinforce the (wrong) notion that special effects work is all about getting new software: say, the Boris FX plugins du jour.

To correct this, I think talk should be focused around techniques, applications, and stuff like that -- see ZephyrStar's thread for a good example -- and to regulate program discussion to the sidelines. Once the focus has been established on that point, perhaps it will be safe to give programs more prominence.

But, hey, it's not just my[/i} board. If program-chasing is what it is destined to be -- well, I'll do my best to balance it out, but, well, whatever. At least you now know what I think.

The blurb there now make it seem like the purpose was about other software not covered elsewhere - not theory questions or discussion.
