"Meet Local Editors" Feature?

This is just a shot in the dark, but i think it would be a really cool way to meet other editors. It would be optional, of course, but it work work something along the lines of editors fill out a sheet with their location and other info (gender, age, etc. ), all optional. Then you could have a directory that people could look through (or maybe have a search feature) and see if there's editors near them they could get together and chit-chat with or whatever.

I know this would be a shit load of work, i'd be more then willing to shoot the shit with whoever gets stuck with it and help them out if it gets a thumbs up. Keeping in mind i know next to nothing about html

I have a feeling it would be a pretty popular feature. And yes, i'v considered the fact a pedophile could use it to pray on little girls, we'll just keep tabs on mr.oni and streicher and we'll be ok. Kidding. But seriously, people could as easily do that with MSN or facebook or whatever so that's not really a concern.

It's not that not every wants to be found, more like they just don't put their location in because they don't think it really matters. Like me. Yet here i am making this proposal. As for it being a dating service, it's not. As we all know, there are no females on the internet. Kiddin, theres nothing stopping people from using PMing as a dating service. Some do. Bad results. lol.

Why can't you just befriend someone then ask them all this stuff when you guys are good enough friends?

Well, maybe 5% of the site uses the forums, which is pretty much the only way to interact with people (journals aside). It's hard to befriend somebody when you don't know they exist. This could be something that maybe bridges with the people who do know each other and the ones that are ...er, isolated from the rest of the editing world.

Or something

i dont put my location (state aside... its a fricken huge state) because i dont want people finding me... but im the same way on every site im on
