Not really meant to be helpful, so much as call out Sierra for saying such a fucking stupid thing. Although Orwell, if you do manage to get some inspiration from it, all the better (or stop smoking drugs, either works).
Wow, amazing what you could do if that song were syncible, but since it isn't, I guess you can't do that.

I'd say focus on a strong message an occasionally hit a beat...focus more on WHAT you're showing and why you're showing it. The song should fit the mood of that message as well though.

Okay, sheesh, guys. :? I was just curious about why he picked a song when he didn't even have any idea how he thought it could be synced to. Of course anything is syncable if it has a beat (even if it's barely audible...) but I wouldn't enjoy a video made to a song that sounds like that, unless it was just an intro to a song that picks up later on, which is a completely different story. And Orwell did say something about it being an intro video so maybe I misunderstood about that. But I think some songs work better for AMV's than others, since the audio is really important--it's half your video--so it's a good idea to choose carefully.

But if you are set on choosing that song, I'd say do something very subtle since that's how the song is and focus on the mood instead.

I agree, if he doesn't know what he wants to do with it, why use it at all :\

and I was confused about the intro part too, you mean and intro of something specific and you want to make the video for it? I didn't get that part...

Monster is a long series. This video is basically a refresher so I don't need to spend hours searching for the right scene for a longer video planned.

I knew what I wanted to do with it from the start. Approach as to making decent internal/external sync is another.

although listening to it, I don't see why it seems so unsynchable...sounds like any other music to me >_>

My dial-up threw a fit so I can't listen to it, but unless it's just static - silent static - it's got some kind of form. Just because something doesn't have a steady beat, a predictable tempo, doesn't mean there's nothing there to sync to.

I get a kick out of finding new rhythms to sync video to, things people generally don't hear on the casual listen. In fact it often drives me bonkers - I'll have things all planned out and halfway decent, then I'll decide to experiment with a completely different synch pattern and everything goes to hell. On good days, hell is a warm, fuzzy place. On bad days, it makes me run around screaming. Wait, I think it's the other way around, actually...
