WARNING!! CONTROVERSIAL ART, DEAD ANIMALS...
CLICK LINKS AT YOUR OWN RISK

Ah! heres the animal killer lady I remember this causing quite a stirr a while back, is this art? or is it animal abuse? she kills animals to take photos of them.

this on the other hand i found while searching for the other lady... O.o this person is not killing animals rather finding already dead ones and painting/dressing them up...

I smell a donator's topic comming up O:
~~~~~~~~~~
so in other words, what one person might call "art" another will not...
in my opinion real "art" is in the eye of the viewer... if the viewer wishes to see something thats "not there" or that "is there" then that is up to the viewer...
which is why I make my amvs for me, and if other people happen to like them too, then cool... if other people get my "vision" or what i was trying to accomplish then even more cool... if not then i dont stress it... it just wasnt for them.
Nappy,
You're missing the point of the thread. |:>
As for the 'full circle' comment, notice that I'd been saying over and over again that the video is technically competent and well-edited (and on those aspects I did enjoy it), I was merely questioning the point of why anime was even used.
Yes, it's not serious business, but that doesn't mean I can't have a general discussion on these types of videos. |:>
Oh and yes, I remember that video you're talking about now.. the difference with that video is that it was labeled as a Fun/Action video.. and the creator had told me that he made it for fun and that the effects on it were placed on there as a visual representation of sound, he wasn't trying to pull some BS about it having 'more meaning that meets the eye' crap.
Didn't we already have a bunch of posts like this in the past years? :?
Personally, i'd say it is an art. So make what you want. Don't fallow trends (maybe recent codecs and what not but not editing styles or video genres). Some people take it very seriously *COUGH*beo*COUGH* and others could care less about what others do.
I'm tired and forgot where i'm going with this. :? er ...be creative, be, be creative :?:
I have no interest in "concept" videos.
When storytelling is ignored, an AMV becomes a pure "concept" video and is reduced to one or a combination of three emotions:
1. "That looked cool."
2. "My retinas are on fire."
3. "Huh?"
A lot of people are making connections between concept AMVs and arthouse videos. Sure, there are arthouse vids out there that resemble concept AMVs, but they're not "good" films. This isn't because the films are unconventional or told "in a different way." It's because the filmmaker doesn't know what story he/she is telling.
I love when someone finds a new way to tell a story (see Thirty-Two Short Films about Glenn Gould), but there has to BE a story SOMEWHERE. Maybe you spent a lot of time editing your concept video, but you could have done the same by making a computer randomize clips and cutting them to the time intervals between drumbeats. If your concept video is more complicated than that, congrats, you're approaching what's called "storytelling." Figure out some character needs/motivations, and you have a "story."
And yeah, all art is subjective, and some people will say "ur dumb, concept vids ROCK!!!!". Blah blah blah. It's perfectly legitimate for anyone to say a type of art is "bad", just the same way I can look at someone and decide if they're ugly/pretty. Or text in my vote for American Idol. By my standard, storyless videos belong in the trash :p
rust me, I can make some random floating things on screen, with a weird kind of flow/synch and give some vague little reference to some word... is that creativity? No. Creativity should have a focus, a clear focus, to be deemed something that is worthwhile. I can think of dozens and dozens of ways to use footage in a way it has never been done in an AMV, as most can, but that doesn't mean it's creative unless it's actually cohesive and makes a point.
Ok, you have just definded what you feel to be creativity. By placing rules on the creative process, you in fact destroy it. If creativity opperated that way, then we would still be listening to Monophonic chants, but people broke the musical rules of the time (Sometimes on purpose, just to be different) and music evolved, much to the chagrin of many at the time. In addition, just because something is not clear and cohesive to you, or me for that matter, does not make it uncreative. To say that is just a pretentious as saying that the creator of said video is pretentious for calling it "art".
So, I'm not saying that I like these two videos, But I don't hate them .... the things I dislike in them are different, and have nothing to do as to whether I feel that they are creative.
I disagree. Without a definition of creativity (or 'rules' as you may want to stretch it out to), then all you'd be left with is chaos (ok maybe not, but still it wouldn't be cohesive). Either way.. this is not really something I wanted to discuss once again. Let's keep it to AMVs.. |:>
PS - I do feel that this definition doesn't limit, more rather, gives us direction in what we edit. Direction, focus .. shallow as they may(can) be, I feel, is part of what makes a video good.
While my post from before was totally ignored in the thread, I still wish to make a feeble attempt at pointing out the fact that I think the distinction you guys are trying to make here is at best flawed and at worst artificial. :roll:
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
I've read every post in this thread and they're all just pointing at problems and none was able to suggest a solution. Could it be that none of you actually want to have this thing brought to an end?
Are we just being angry for a bit and then return to status quo once again, yes?
I find it pretty ironical that this is a discussion about things without certain content while the discussion lacks content itself. You guys have gone from "I don't like this" to "I don't like that" but there was no "Let's..." or a "How about..." or just "Why don't we..." because everyone can brag but actually having a goal to focus on is harder isn't it?
Honestly, I'm just trying to figure what the heck you people all think that should be done with this. Obviously we got issues here since it's a detailed 9 pages thread but once it stops getting bumped nothing will have changed just like all the years before and I really really hate it when people make smalltalk out of what was supposed to be a discussion. Or was this just a poll to begin with like the first post kinda suggests?
I dunno, that's why I'm asking, is this just a rant or more? Do we want to permit/banish those videos from this website or is it about how these videos win awards that they don't deserve? Or about videos that should get these awards instead?
Really I'm lost here, help me out.
